Thief feels significantly weaker

Improvisation “fix” is kind of nerf…
The Dhuumfire thread
Try playing it the way thief used to be played instead of giving up more and more damage for self survival. There is enough support in the game now to be kept alive by allies when queuing with a team, and before you say you’re solo: the builds used in team queue always end up being used most in solo queue regardless of what they need from allies.

Do you mean this?
Thief
Deadly Arts: Improvisation: Fixed an issue that prevented this trait from recharging physical skills when stealing from an enemy.
Because that’s not a nerf.

Less chances to get other utilities is not a nerf?

If you are ran Physicals, you had 0 chance, so no, it isn’t.

So only look at half of this fix??

It’s a nerf for the core thief, because core thief has no access to physicals. Their improv recharge type pool got increased by having one useless option added.
Sure, it recharges physical skills now, but it’s only a buff if you actually have daredevil -and- choose to use daredevil, which is a specialization of thief, and not core.
Just in case you’re not pretending that you don’t understand that
Zarin Mistcloak(THF) Valkyrie Mistblade(WAR) Kossori Mistwalker(REV) Durendal Mistward(GRD)
I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
Also nobody really uses physicals, they’re pretty bad.

I use some physicals, they’re pretty good if you know what you’re doing.
Also; lol at saying the fix posted was a nerf… It clearly wasn’t doing what the trait said.
Some of you need a dictionary.
Physicals are pretty good, until you see what a chronomancer can do.
Impairing dagger, is literally Chronomancer’s shield #5, but against one mob and with poison (and most importantly, without interrupt. Impairing dagger needs an interrupt ).
Like seriously, the visual effect on its immob is exactly what is used in chronomancer.
I mean, I may be kinda late to notice that, but it kind of disappointed me to see that the visual that I liked the most on my Daredevil is actually a leftover of the visually most beautifully executed specialization.
It really startled me when I saw this while testing my chrono. I was checking all around me to see if there was a Daredevil around me but I was all alone.
It’s true that Daredevil feels weaker than other specs. But on the other hand, it feels like you can have a more reactive gameplay with it than other specializations.
If we were to compare GW2 to Megaman, I’d say :
Daredevil is base form megaman, and all the other specializations are the bosses. They got all the power-creep, but limited maneuverability compared to Daredevil.

Megaman had tight predictable controls. Something a thief needs. RNG increase in Improv, is counter to that…

Some of you need a dictionary.
And you need a course in probability 101.
Before the fix, the trait “rolled” everytime to choose 1 out of 5 categories, so 20% prob. for each category skills to be insta recharged.
After the fix, the trait rolls to choose 1 out of 6 categories, so 16.67% prob. for the insta recharge of a category.
So yes, it is a nerf.

Recharge chance from improv for core thief utilties got reduced from 20% to ca. 16,67% (which is almost 20% nerf). Last time i checked 16,67 < 20. I suggest you to visit some math classes before you insult someone accusing them in lying.
Given that DrD is just part of thief and not everyone plays it, not to mention that not even every DrD is using physical skills, it is overall actually a NERF.

Incorrect.
I understand probability just fine.
You need a dictionary, or to head back to English class in grade school.

“You can use stolen items twice. One random skill category is immediately recharged when you steal.”
Physical skills, are in fact, one of the skill categories available.
This FIX, simply updated the trait to do what it exactly what it was originally designed to do.
This FIX was not made to lessen the effectiveness of this trait; nor did it modify any functionality of this trait. It simply added a skill category that up until Friday was not accessible to thieves.
I’ll give you I’m arguing semantics, however, it’s important to use the correct vocabulary.
Also to note; I am of the strong mindset that this skill should NOT include physical skills if the player does not have DD slotted.
@Actiondan.8146: they did effectively nerf the chance though…

Indirectly yes, I never said that it wasn’t impacted. It however, by definition is a fix; not a nerf.
Example:
BW3 Dragon Hunter trap Fragments of Faith was hitting thrice instead of once. The ability was designed and tooltip written stating that it would hit once.
On live; one of the bug fixes from BW3 was that Fragments of Faith will now correctly hit once instead of three times.
Would you consider this a nerf?
Or would you say that the ability was behaving outside of the intended use and needed to be fixed to appropriately hit a single time?
The answer is that it wasn’t a nerf, because the ability wasn’t doing what it was supposed to in the first place.
Using your logic; I’ll call it a buff. Because I commonly use physical skills.
(^note this also doesn’t make sense; I’m only saying so to better illustrate my point.)

It’s a nerf when a Thief doesn’t run DD. It’s a nerf when a DD Thief doesn’t run physical skills. Thief players generally call it a nerf because we generally fall into one of these two categories. Is this description satisfactory for correct vocabulary and accurately describing the outcome of the fix?
Improvisation doesn’t mean random if you want to nick pick at definitions.
Only if you’re referring to the noun “improvisation” and not the GW2 skill “Improvisation”. The definition of the noun doesn’t involve random chance but the definition of the GW2 skill certainly does.

Haha. The irony of the most rational statement I could think to respond with being interpreted as a joke is not lost on me. (I like to read books and articles whose authors basically argue over semantics with their friends and colleagues for the same reason a weight-lifter would lift weights. What you interpret as a joke, or some form of trolling, is really me attempting to compel my brain to make connections so as to make them faster than I would otherwise.) Nonetheless, if you’d like to approach my disagreement as an attempt to one-up or troll you, that’s a very unfortunate presumption to end a conversation over. You call Poe’s Law on me. I call ignorance on you.
Who said something can’t be both a bugfix and a nerf? If a bug was making a class stronger and they fix that bug, it’s a nerf, and the devs should pay attention to see if there’s a way to compensate for it to keep from weakening the class.
If any of you play League of Legends you will know what I mean. Each time they patch something they have reasons and concerns listed with it. So if they fixed a bug that was helping a champion they will say something like:
“Fixed bug Y. Since Champion X was previously balanced with this bug being in place, we gave Champion X a buff to Z to make up for this fix weakening it in area Q.”
I would quite literally pay an extra $50 for this game if it gave me access to patch notes like that.
