Hey guys!
I’ve also posted this topic in Ranger forums as well, but I’m torn between a Ranger and a Thief for leveling to 80. And my primary interest for now is Dungeons. I can’t seem to find much help, and I’m also a little impatient to scan through all the forum topics about this question.
But I’m mainly wanting to know if thieves are practical and/or needed in dungeons. I understand they can bring some good utility to a group and that’s great.
Maybe in a bit more detail, could some of the experienced thieves grant me some advice/thoughts on rolling a thief for dungeons; pros/cons, tips, etc.
Oh, and I dont mind support roles at all. Im not interested so much in faceroll DPS and D/D, as i dont think it would suit dungeons very well….because I know I would die very quickly. I guess I have my sights set on SB and maybe S/P for trash? Not sure, need you help! Thanks guys

For dungeons…I would think a Ranger would be better than a thief. You can do some pretty constant damage without worrying about getting smashed every second. When I’m on my thief if I’m not paying very close attention to what the boss is doing then things can go very badly for me in short order.

Thief is more useful in dungeons than ranger. They have higher DPS and group stealth to make skipping parts easier. You don’t have to worry about getting killed if you stay ranged and use stealth intelligently. Use short bow for groups and unload on single targets.

Great, I’ll certainly take the info into consideration. What might be my best secondary wpn set option? And should I trait defensively pretty heavy, or like, half n half maybe? I’m thinking perhaps my best bet might be to go heavy def at first, then once i get better, sacrifice some def for a little more offensive output? Maybe condition dmg is a good route?

Thief is better. Ranger should be better but sadly the pet screwed that up most of the time. The pet will constantly die, trigger traps and agro mobs. I have Thief and Ranger and Thief is better at pretty much anything because of pets… Only thing Ranger has is being good at PvE.

Great! Well, kinda sad to hear, but also helps my choosing. I know Ranger forums have been full of QQ’s about the prof. for quite some time. And I know all classes have their amount of that on forums, but it seems pretty overwhelming with rangers and it just makes me wonder if there’s not some root truth to character flaws/bugs to a point that it just makes the class “not fun.”
I also have found some rare threads with anti-Ranger QQ, stating that when mastered, theyre unstoppable. But I kinda doubt I’ll be any class master, as I don’t have that kind of time to dedicate, and may therefore get too frustrated with no pew pew. My main question really was about thieves being very viable/usable in dungeons. As I mostly only see or read about them for PvP…
