Thief in PvE/Dungeons
yes my friend, thieves are not wanted in PVE/dungeons
that’s a fact that can’t be denied
Thieves are god tier in dungeons since all you need is dodges and damages. Nobody wants thieves b/c too many wvw thieves came over to try dungeons and failed miserably, giving thieves a bad name. If you get good you’ll do well but good luck finding a pug that will look past that you’re not a warrior, guardian, mesmer.

To be honest – I can understand them. I don’t want to have p/p range only 0-0-30-20-20 thieves in my team. Nearly every pug thief is a shortbow 1 spamming one with signet of shadows instead of something better… it makes me sad v.v
But thieves can be really useful and helpful. We have abilities to safe our team for example signet of agility is great skill I don’t want to miss – the others can’t see our support in form of boons but it doesn’t mean that we don’t have one.
The sneakthief is obviously squishy, however you can pull off some viable dps with dd / pp. It all depends if you master the “know how” dodge/ inc dmg avoidance, which you already knew. As for group support aside from damage, it’s pretty much stealth. Is stealth as useful as for example boons a guardian provide during his dps? Thief may be in a tighter spot during fights, but inbetween we can make it easier to skip packs of mobs. Many tend to run with defensive trait specs, I dont mind this as long as theyre zerker (which quite a few are), which makes up for dmg loss from trait specs.
I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore
The (nearly) facts are, thief is harder to play well, it can be good in dungeons, most pve thieves aren’t good and the general attitude is negative towards thieves.
So unless you are willing to put a lot of effort into knowing the dungeons and profession, you should go with something much easier to pickup and embraced by others. And even if you are a good thief you have to be willing to put up with people looking down on your class in general. You’d really have to be the gunslinger type really enjoy a thief in PvE.

I’d agree w/ that. The reason everyone wants 4 zerk warriors + mesmer for CoF P1 isn’t because it’s the optimal combo (protip: it’s already been proven that it’s not), it’s because 3 of the 4 warriors can be braindead morons who don’t even have to dodge and you’ll still hit near optimum speeds.
Thieves are harder to play, and certainly harder to play well, than any other melee class.
A good thief is better than a mediocre player in another class. In dungeons you need to learn a new play style but it can certainly be done and a good thief shouldn’t struggle to get groups (any more than a necro, ranger, engineer).
