How is that a Thief mobility exploit?

Unlike other professions, Thieves can’t teleport to any place they can’t normally go walking without any single jump (other professions can use big leaps on skills or true teleports, shadowstep is limited).

And what do you mean with scaling a cliff? Do you mean he insta-teleported or he simply was flying and reached the peak or something? What exactly is “high enough to die”? Because none of our teleports reach so high.

Anyway, I don’t see how this is something specific to the Thief, if there is a profession that can’t do that stuff because the limits on shadowsteps it’s the Thief.

If it was some hacking issue then it’s not Thief related at all, it’s player related. He could’ve been a Thief, but the trick would’ve been hacking, not exploiting something Thief related.

Are you sure he wasn’t using a Mesmer portal or something? Your description is very vague to know what do you mean with “thief mobility exploit” :S

Don’t bother Anet does not ban people for hacking. Had a guildmember speed, teleport and HP hacking a month ago. Other servers caught him on Fraps and screen shoots and it was blatant(He was only person of that class on at time this happened so was easy to see who it was). Went out and saw it myself so he was kicked out of guild and reported it as did many other people from all 3 servers.
That person still logs in to this day.

Wasn’t a hack, he used an ability and it ported him all the way up, but I’ll go to the services thing.

If he used a teleport it’s alright. None of our teleports will get us to places where someone couldn’t go without jumping, just with a lot of walking around the structure, but he isn’t using an exploit, it’s intended to work like that.

It’s possible that he reached a place you needed to walk around to get to the top (like for example a bridge or many shortcuts on the PvP maps), but it’s impossible that he got high enough to die if he fell that distance. He would be the first Thief dying from a 900-1200 fall with full HP.

There wasn’t any move exploit, there are certain shortcuts that shadowstep can use, but always under the condition that you can reach them without a single jump by walking through another route (and sometimes it’s bugged and fails to teleport you on these situations too). He just knew the area and where he had to shadowstep.

Here is a video of Shortbow shortcuts in a PvP map. You can see some shots get him to places others would need to walk a lot around to reach, but you can always see some stair connecting to those places which means you never need to press your jump key to reach them:

There are certain cliffs (borderland north east supply camp) that can be scaled with tactical placing of infiltrator’s arrow. There are some other locations too like in Lion’s Arch at the boats. These places are reachable on foot and is why IA works. This is not exploiting but mastering the skill rly.
Only when the skill gets to someplace that wouldn’t be reachable on foot (for example by jumping) it is an “exploit” (though sometimes I wish it could pass a stupid tree trunk but no .. I had to “jump” for that).
