Thief needs another offhand
Offhand sword or torch. If you want a stealthless build use Sw/p, its also the easiest weapon set to level with
Neither sword/pistol nor pistol/pistol uses the off hand pistol for stealth.
I really want no-stealth longbow more than anything so I can actually play an archer since ANet refuses to allow pet removal on rangers.
But pistol offhand is the non-stealth offhand at the moment. The only stealth you get with pistol offhand is with dagger mainhand for the leap finisher on smoke for stealth. Otherwise, it does nothing else but damage and blind.
The biggest issue is that you can’t make things like sword offhand because then you’d have two kits for the same weapon sets, and then #3 skill would remain the same as that’s how thieves work. You’d end up with lefty-pistol whip with ranged damage on P/S with bleed stacking and vuln stacks.
It’d have to either be a weapon dedicated to offhand which the thief currently has no access to (which all thematically don’t really work), or a two-handed one like longbow/rifle/greatsword.

Yeah I tried pistol offhand (S/P and P/P) but they’ve got the same 4 and 5 skill as dagger main – and you don’t have the leap through for stealth. Plus then you lose Flanking/Larcenous Strike.
It just seems like everything is leading you toward using stealth – which I guess is why you see so much of it.
I may try S/P again. Pistol Whip may be better than I thought, The wiki says it has an evade on it but its not listed as that in description.
Thief longbow! And double sword would be cool – you could have a chop their head off move like in Gladiator.
Yes pistol whip evades for the second half (the flurry part) bit thats not why it’s good for PVE. Its good because you can drop black powder so youre badically invulnerable, and then auto attack with sword which is our only cleaving weapon. And if any mobs do get a hit or 2 in, the autoattack gives weakness so it won’t be that strong of a hit
Axe would be very nice. Fits the class’s fighting style while also offering up a potential dual set other than dagger (since they for w/e reason havn’t given us OH sword yet ….).
Torch would be bad imo. Leads to burning, which means spammable, which means nerfs and Q.Q. Lets not give them something to complain about. OH sword, focus (support/stealth/trickery), or axes.
