Thief new weapon
Have you noticed the trait in acrobatics, “Swindlers Equilibrium”, where it says: “successfully evading an attack while wielding a sword or SPEAR recharges steal by a static amount”
We allready have a spear, but that’s underwater. You think they added it in there for underwater combat – which sucks and we all know it?
Just putting it out there.
But if every class is getting a brand new weapon, thats out of the question ofc.

Maybe im stupid as fhak, but I dont get your point there ^^
I was just rambling about the trait that says if we have a spear equipped, it would recharge steal by a static amount. If that’s aimed at underwater combat or not. If not, spear is our “new” weapon. But again, spear is something we already have, and if all classes get’s a brand new weapon, that’s not it :P
I just find it weird that they base a trait around underwater combat, which are rarely used. But again, i’m not surprised. It’s a-net

Honestly at this point it wouldn’t be a stretch if they did that xD

Yeah anet ditched underwater but yet you see them balanicng underwater skills every update,it seems they have greater plan for underwater in the fututre ahead.
We won’t be getting offhand sword anytime soon because main hand pistol/dagger (small) + an offhand sword (big) will look weird as hell.
Notice how the Mesmer can use pistols and offhand sword but in exchange cannot use main hand pistol?
As for the Spear, please take note that the weapon is highly evasive so the trait makes sense for it. Also it seems ANet said that no underwater weapon was coming for land usage.
Nobody at ANet said the specialisatios would get different weapons. In fact, it’s highly unlikely already since it seems Revenant gets a Shield which Mesmers get too. Also, Elementalists just got the same utility types as Necromancers, Shouts.

sword/pistol??
Mesmer got:
scepter/sword
Guard got:
Mace/Shield so does warrior
all those are small to big offhand
Scepter and Mace aren’t small at all. Not like a dagger or a pistol is.

Some,some not.
I can give you pistol bigger than mace and vise versa. same goes for scepter but less.
Let me try again : it’ll look dumb as hell to see a thief autoattack with a dagger while he has a sword in his other hand doing nothing.

They can do animation for it,just as they do with any other x/sword stuff.
look at mesmer,it will be really wierd doing sonfusion images with sword OH and they made it ok,Blurred frenzy would have looked wierd with offhand sword doing nothing and they made it look ok.
Uhmmm aren’t you forgetting Torch? Could also be an option altho unlikely since I estimate the chances high that rev elite spec gets it.
We’ll probably get staff and nothing prevents having twice the same elite specialisation weapon.
Warrior elite spec seems to be called “berserker”, it’s weird that they’ll get pistol for that.
Though warriors already have so many weapons anyway. One day they’ll be the only class without a new weapon in an elite spec update cause they’ll already have all !

I don’t know why people are using baseline rev specs to justify multiple elite specs getting the same weapon. So far each espec got a different weapon so it’ll only be reasonable to assume the rest of the especs are going to use different weapons.

You guys are forgetting torch.
Nr. 4 will reveal the enemy for 3 sec and #5 will apply a stack of burning for 3 sec, but will get nerfed to 1, because it will be just crazy what you can do to the golems in the mists.
I still think rifle will be the weapon.
yeah forgot Torch.I will be utter disappointed if it will be rifle or torch(or focus for that matter) I can accept staff but offhand sword is so suited for thieves than mesmers!

I feel the same. Torch or focus is just strange for thief. Rifle would be either op or useless (they nerfed sb#2 and removed ricochet). So I really hope for offhand sword, but staff would be also ok I guess (but with some staffs thieves would look strange).
I’d probably only be disappointed with torch. Focus, axe, rifle, scepter, and staff could be cool. Torch would just make me feel like a queensdale bandit.
Edit: If focus had some shadowstep control effects it could be a lot of fun. The dual skills could be blur effects, the 4 could shadowstep you to a targetable location, the 5 could shadowstep opponents to you and steal boons.

It’s staff. The same way I determined Warhorn a month ago
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Tempest-Warhorn-confirmed-Feedback-merged/first
Also applies to thief. New ascended Staff, ninja-like, and there is even a staff wielding specialization back-drop. I’m more sure of thief staff that I was of even Warhorn on Ele.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Ranger gets ranged magic staff so even with melee staff that is still a different weapon plus there is a data-mined picture of a staff wielding thief. Debate solved.
/thread
Melee staff would be totally awkward. I don’t get it why people think thieves feels like ninjas. There isn’t any staff that looks like a melee weapon. Also i don’t think they make completely new animations for staff wielding.

Still dosn’t make sense it will be staff. In inspite you think that ranged STAFF and melee STAFF are not the same weapon, the pattern is celar and anet wouldn’t give 2 classes same weapon.

They gave 2 classes the same utility type, maybe they’ll follow suit with weapons. I’ll wait though till we see the actual artwork. I mean they had placeholders for ele sword in game, then they went and gave them warhorn. Additionally, the specialization for warrior artwork had a two handed axe, so maybe they’re taking more liberties with artwork. Who knows.
Not torch is my vote.

Revenant has allready staff for melee combat ( so animations wouldnt be so hard to do)
and with HoT there will be a bunch of new skins even for a melee looking staff
To all of you saying they wouldn’t give the same weapon to more than one specilaization. I believe the revenant shield spec (glint) will be the revenants elite spec. Meaning it would share the same elite spec with Mesmer.
In addition to that, there will be more elite spec in the future and at some point weapons WILL overlap so its a moot point in the long run. Take that with the already leaked evidence of staff models and the backdrop in thief colors and you can say fairly certainly that its gonna be staff. Also noteworthy is that with the introduction of melee staff on revenant they already got some new animations which they might reuse for thief skills.

1st.I belive that Justin Bieber is a girl, dosnt mean its true.
2nd.Revenant is a new class which stuff already overlaped with it,Rev is not related.
3rd.they “leaked” sword on ele’s,and eventually it was warhorn.

Glint is the last spec which has yet to be revealed and considering that every class has five specs plus one elite spec makes it more than likely, i understand nothing is set in stone, but this whole thread is about speculation so it fits right in.
I have no idea what your second point is, sorry.
The ‘leak’ on ele sword was nothing but the concept of some changed dagger skills, not even half finished and taken out of the game weeks before the announcment. The artwork and the weapon skins (which can already already be previewed in game) are a stronger indication than that.
We will have to wait and see, but as of now i stand by my point that staff is the most likely and possibly rifle due to the clear lack of solid (long) ranged options.

Yeah, because Bubbles, Sandrox, Bubbles…. And that’s all I’ll say….

The idea seems to be that we have right handed characters. And as right handed characters our dominant hand should have the weapon that needs the most combined dexterity and strength. It is nothing to do with the size of the weapon.
For example, with a sword and shield, you need a lot more dexterity and strength with the sword than the shield. While you do need strength to use a shield, you essentially only need to raise up and withstand an attack, so there is very little dexterity involved compared to sword.
Another example is sword + pistol. While the pistol requires a lot of dexterity to use, the sword requires a lot of dexterity AND strength to use effectively.
That said, there is one reason why I am surprized Anet hasn’t gone the ambidextrous route. And that is the fact that they like to break convention, with ranged hammer and greatsword. So it seems perfectly reasonable to me to have ambidextrous characters in GW2 IMO. But at the end of the day, it is not a big deal for me. I can get behind the idea of us all being right handed. Just surprised Anet hasn’t wanted to break this convention yet.
Who knows, maybe they will with one of the elite specs, if not in HoT in future elite spec releases.

ok. Warrior mace/sword. both need str to use and not raising the sword like shield

Warrior and mesmer are probably the only ambidextrous professions in the game.
There should be more ambidextrous weapon combos IMO, but I guess Anet finds it aesthetically unappealing. I would love my thief to be ambidextrous. It would feel thematically appealing to me to have my character wield sword+pistol one minute then juggle the weapons around to have pistol+sword the next.
I am all for ambidextrous characters, I’m just trying to point out why I think Anet has, for the most part, decided against it.
Note that Warrior currently doesn’t even have a “small” weapon available, and that Mesmer only has Pistol, and they can only use it in the offhand.
So both classes are unable to use a small main hand weapon with a big offhand weapon.

mace=dagger in size.
