Q:

Hey everyone! Sorry for the noob question but I’m fairly new to this game and i’m wondering how viable are thieves now and how they will be post September patch, I’ve read a lot of forums although some outdated saying that thieves are not very good and that warriors are better or stuff like why roll a thief when warriors are more useful and do more damage etc. I myself play enjoy being an assassin in most of the games I play but i’m really curious of what will happen to thieves and if they excel late game, or just get shrek’d. If possible please let me know what you guys think!

Thanks

thief has always been one of the strongest professions across the board (PvE, sPvP, WvW) and will most likely continue to be. thief is high-risk high-reward so that means that it’s a very skill reliant profession so while thief can be devastating like no other profession in the hands of someone that knows what their doing, it can also be very unforgiving to those who play it incompetently. the learning curve tends be noticeably steeper than most professions (especially warrior) but again, thief rewards player ability extremely well and that’s what makes it by far the most fun profession for me to play.

warrior is a much easier and forgiving profession by design but imo this lends the profession to a lower skill ceiling that makes it a less enjoyable profession to play in my eyes.

the september feature pack’s balancing changes will barely affect thief at all. the changes/nerfs are all minor and mostly fair. the only change i’m actually against is the buff to venomshare in WvW because of how stupidly strong p/d condi already is in WvW, however it might make thief more viable as support in sPvP so i’m open to it there.

warriors on the other hand got some fairly nasty nerfs all over this upcoming patch, so if anything you should be questioning warrior viability post-patch (spoiler: it wont).

Oh nice atm i have a lv 73 Ele and I really enjoy being in the front row of combat which is why i went D/D ele but i have a feeling i’d have to respec to a staff or something so I decided to make my thief, Is P/D really the most viable build? coz i really enjoy D/D or D/P coz of the quick attacks.

Oh and skill wise I really dont mind coz i do enjoy a challenge. So which is more rewarding late game D/D ele or D/D thief?

Thank you for the answer btw

war is almost master of all trade (not just jack) and also easy to play.

As thief at first, War is very scary to fight since one lucky shot can split you in half.
But not so much with exp thief.

my advice is play class you want to play.
as long as you play for fun not to conquer Tyria.

no comment on next patch.

yea no problem

but yeah no, p/d is just overpowered in WvW 1v1s because conditions are naturally strong in 1v1s but become stupid strong in WvW thanks to dire gear/condition duration food/perplexity runes. it’s not unbeatable by any means just way more annoying to deal with than it should be.

that being said d/p, s/d, and s/p are probably the best weaponsets for thief in sPvP and WvW. d/d can be good, but it’s risks outweighs it’s rewards too heavily versus players, however d/d alongside s/p are the best sets for PvE.

honestly though ele versus thief is apples to oranges. they’re both their own professions that are great in different ways, only way to find out which you like better is to play them yourself.
