Thief ridiculously underpowered in PVP?
K U R A Enguard [ENG], Pretty Princess Squad [MEN]
This game is not focused on 1v1 but I think it should. Only in this way we could have every class equally strong. I’m a good roamer and decapper but still I’m so kittened of doing only this role. I don’t even partecipate in teamfight anymore and sometimes I end matches with 0 ppl killed. About ressing, no problem, a war banner is better than me. I just need go decapping and avoiding to be killed. IT’s my role bu it’s not fun
but they’re a lot stronger
than they will be next year!
I´m running D/P and I litearally can´t kill anyone in pvp.
I hit people for ten seconds straight and they still have like 70% of their health then they turn around and kill me within half a second.
What gives?
Can you say what traits/utilities you’re running? And also the tactics you use?
Have you tried any other weapon sets?
I´m using this build:
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Thief_-_Dagger/Pistol
Basilisk Venom, Shadow Step, backstab, blinding powder, shadow shot, then spam 1 and heartseeker if he is below 25%.
After all these combos and dodging like crazy a ranger will kill me with two shots from his auto attack while still having like 80% health. It´s kittened.

Basilisk Venom, Shadow Step, backstab, blinding powder, shadow shot, then spam 1 and heartseeker if he is below 25%.
Is that the combo you use?
Do you open with Shadow Step (utility)? If so, I would save it in case you get stunned or get hit with multiple conditions.
Or do you open with Steal instead? Steal should stun (with Basilisk Venom and Mug) as well as Stealth you (Hidden Thief) so you can Backstab, so that would make more sense, especially because it opens the fight giving you Fury (Thrill of the Crime).
Personally, I would save Black Powder (not Blinding Powder, correct?) for when you need to Stealth because it’s so costly to your initiative pool. Unless you can get the opponent to stand in it, you’d be much better off with using only Shadow Shot to Blind. It’s cheaper and gets you in his face.
As for going up against different builds, it’s important to learn Thief tricks. I’m not sure how experienced you are, but here are some videos that may have some tips you haven’t learned yet…

As for Rangers, some builds are worse than others. But it is always important to get close (when they have their bows out). If not, you’re a sitting duck. That’s why it’s important to be able to Stealth long enough to reach them (Black Powder + Heartseeker x 4). Our Steal is also long-ranged now, so it can help.
I don’t use Shadow Arts much, I actually prefer Critical Strikes, so I depend on a lot of Tricks and Stun Breakers. Withdraw and Roll For Initiative really help me against Rangers.
Just remember that you do have Headshot to interrupt heals and skills like Rapid Fire.
Ps. If you are willing to give up Hidden Killer (Stealth on Steal), then you can pre-cast Black Powder, Steal, Heartseeker, then Backstab. What that does is actually drop the blinding field on top of the target.
Ok, first you dont want to start with the venom. Use it at a health level you can get the opponent down with backstab, stun, attacks and another stun from steal if venom runs out. Thats a first suggestion.
I wrote it earlier, you cannot relay on any skillrotation as a thief like eles can do. You need to watch your opponent and react to his actions. Its not working to use the same combo every time.
#stillinMetaStillOP
:P
(Better get a head start on this “you guys were in meta since day one, and still are, so you aren’t underpowered” thing)
Problem with this mindset is it only applies to a few % of people especially with the huge influx of f2p accounts.
An awful lot of people will go into pvp without ever seeing a league match or knowing what a thiefs role is ‘supposed’ to be, they just want to go into pvp and have fun fighting other players and what’s wrong with that?
So all the pro’s who can only retort by saying ‘thief is fine – its still meta’ the average player really doesn’t care about that and they should be able to fight others at least on a fair playing field.
As a thief you can kill anyone as long as:
-They dont know thief tricks
-They dont stack up aoe/burns everywhere
-They are way worse player than you
Who you wont kill or will require luck(not skillbased matchup):
Condi Mesmer (forget ever trying to fight)
Burn Guard (if you get burn after initial clear your basicly dead)
Ranger (Coni will just spam traps to dot you to death, pew pew can basicly kill you in 2 hits, if you let any maul or other skill hit you need to reset, if you get CCed while getting hit by it your basicly dead – low taunt cd random knock with pets cc on every weapon, more hp than you, more survi traits(protection on evade,33%dmg reduc when more than 50%hp)+signet of "i dont give a f about ur dmg)
Ofc its when your enemy is atleast half good as you (with dumb mmr should be always) I know many of you will still say “ranger is no problem” when you guys probably never won 1v1 with ranger that is not braindead(90% of rangers are…)
