So with specializations thieves will lose Opportunist and Infusion of Shadows, meaning a 6/6/2/0/0 won’t be able to backstab indefinetly and a 6/6/0/0/2 will lose some backstabs, maybe adding a Wild Strike to the rotation. Do you think this will affect thief in PvE? And do you think the ability to cap 3 traitlines will compensate for the loss?

Yes and Yes.

SA will become the tank line as stealthing will cut damage you take in half. Add Shadow Rejuvenation and you have the base for every thief tank build ever.

… sooo what do you guys think the new rotation will be after the loss of opportunist?

C&D, Backstab, full chain, full chain, C&D, Backstab… and so on, to take full advantage of Lead Attacks?

With Steal pre-patch and Opportunist, we would regain about 0.26 ini/second. Post-patch, with Sleight of Hand, you can get back about 0.09 ini/second.

That sounds bad, however we also have to consider that 15 initiative will be baseline when using 66006. Lead Attacks is nice, but so is being further from the First Strikes threshold. With that extra 3 initiative as a reserve, it will be more than simple enough to maintain the same sort of rotation as you could have done pre-patch.

With 12, you had to be very, VERY careful about making sure you got back up to 12 while hitting C+D so that your Backstab would benefit from First Strikes. Now, that’s less of a concern and you can afford to spend a point or two tightening up your attack rotation in a more bursty fight (most dungeon bosses), or you can keep doing what you would have done normally and it will do just fine (tankier Fractal bosses, anything that comes in HoT).

I’m using a 6/6/0/0/2 build currently in most PVE situations.

After patch I will go for something like this:
http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AgcBfAJcBdg~

For survival I will get Invigorating Precision, now that it is not competing with Executioner, extra 5% damage on poisoned foes (5% dagger damage will be baseline), Lead Attacks will add extra damage on the first hits (up to +12%).

I think with Sleight of Hand the CD of Steal will be the same as having 6 points in the current system, which means with the current system Steal CD is 10% while after the trait patch it will be 15%+Sleight of Hand reduction (how much is this?) so overall Steal will apply Might, Swiftness, Fury, Vigor, rip 2 boons from the foe and apply them to the Thief and party, poison and daze the target all with a 30%(?) CD reduction instead.

dp still gonna be better than dd

D/D Elementalist takes no skill but is good at everything in the game.
Mesmer is unfun to play against and does everything better than thieves.
Hoping those two get gutted with nerfs
