Hi guys I created this thread so we as the thief community can be constructive and come up with counter proposals to any particular upcoming thief change that you feel may be detrimental to our class. Collectively we have so much experience and may have better insight as to how the upcoming changes will impact us. Anet has stated nothing is set in stone so this is our chance. This is not a doom a gloom thread so please keep replies on topic.

1. List the change in question.

2. List the game modes that will be most affected and give examples.

3. List you counter proposal to upcoming change

4. Try and be specific.

Ok I will start things off this biggest change I am most concerned about is: Shadow Return on Sword. Renamed to Infiltrator’s return. Added a 1/4s cast time.

Most complaints in regard to this skill was because was because of the effectiveness of the high evasion Sd spec. This spec was already nerfed with the LS change I would also argue that this spec was successful because of the lack of mesmers(counter specs) at the time. Mesmer are re-emerging and they already counter this spec pretty well 1200 ranger attack the ablitiy to summon high damaging phantasm from a distance. Also with stealth and phase retreat(5-7sec cd) mesmers already have the advantage and with added cast time the and the mes change to ic trait things will get worse.

S/x lacks dps in comparison to d/x specs so the added in-combat is very important. S/d with Ls strike nerf already pales in comparison to dp, it already has higher dps output. Two gap closners via HS and SS and on demand daze not to mention poison on the auto attack and a more reliable was to enter stealth.

My next point is fluidity, currently IS feels good and it really is the identity of S/x thief builds. I think the cast-time would really make the rotation of S/x thief feel clunky and awkward which would affect enjoyment and fun across all game modes PvE, WvW and Spvp.

Sp doesn’t have access to stealth so in-combat ability is very important IS cast-time will affect this set survivability greatly.

John peters mentioned they wanted to reduce the evasiveness of high evasion thief . Imo I think this goal would already be achieved by the 50% reduction in vigor. Sd was the main high evasion thief build with LS nerf and 50% vigor I really think Sd wont be that effective anymore. Though if they still wanted to nerf Infiltrator’s return I would suggest increasing the initiative cost by 1 or even 2.

I think increasing the initiative cost would be the best way to nerf IS. The game play and fluidity would remain, at the same time making the skill less effective. (though I am still hopeful it wont get changed).

Ok guys feel free to add you thoughts and idea and maybe at the end of the week we can post our counter proposals on the Main Dec 10 preview patch.

I already have a War, while its very easy to be effective for little effort its way to mind-numbingly boring.

I don’t think most people can be constructive. Just look at the viewcount, all of the post that are “kitten ANAT Y U NURF THIEF EVRY TIME!” trend more than constructive feedback. So lets hope Anet is looking at the constructive posts more.

ICD instead of 5)

4.Specifically this is a trait that rewards continuous striking, which is what i thought
Anet wanted more of from the Thief. Nerfing it to kitten ICD will give more incentive
to practice the entire “wait until my CD is ready to strike again” mentality, as
opposed to " the longer i stick out this fistfight the more initiative i can gain.".

So basically overall i think it would be a much healthier choice to keep Opportunist AS IS considering it is a trait that incentivizes open combat and more aggressive play.

IS/SR does not need a nerf, never did, still doesn’t. It makes one of the most acrobatic/mobility play styles in the game, which belongs on the thief.

It’s been nerfed repeatedly, over and over. At this point I don’t care because i already am gearing up my Warrior as many other people that left thief long ago probably are as well.
