Thief vs Warrior?
Because of knockdowns, I dodge a ton. There’s traits that allow us to dodge more and return energy after dodging. You can also use caltrops to slow the warrior. I think the class that grief me the most is either necro or mesmer. Warriors you just have to try to move outa their way (think positioning spells).
Short bow is your friend.
Kite them, dodge they’re slow animation abilities (they are deadly) and when out of endurance you have ability #2 from short bow that provides evade and jumps back.
If you see that he as used his CD’s and is half dead if you wish you can switch weapon for a faster kill, if not just keep kiting.
Also works very well with guardians, other melee thieves and engineers.
Pretty much what they said. Exploit the heck out of your superior mobility. With S/D I usually Steal to close, C&D->Tactical Strike as an opener. Use the opportunity Tactical Strike gives you to throw a sword combo to get them crippled/weakened, then dodge out as they come out of daze. Let them burn off their weakened heal (if you took poison-on-steal) and counter-attack trying to close with you (dodge caltrops help), IF back in, re-daze, and finish the fight. Don’t let them get any huge telegraphed combos off on you and don’t burn a bunch of cooldowns while they’re invincible and you’ll be fine.
Most of the problems thieves have with warriors seems to be either getting ambushed and destroyed by an unanticipated combo, or trying to do a high-burst opener and getting it completely negated by a warrior damage immunity skill.
I tried it against a warrior today and I killed violently, my combo fails against the war because they block all my shots as I do? the War and the guardians are the ones that cause me problems with thief

Thats because “lol I’m immune to damage for a few seconds” is the natural counter to the “lol I’m going to do a bunch of damage in a few seconds” style of attack you attempted. It is like when bow rangers spam themselves to death on a daggerstorm. If you’re bringing a one-shot-wonder to a fight and someone brings a hardcounter, you’re going to have a bad time.
Incidentally, this is why everyone also carries a shortbow.
I think that there is a build against warriors using a thief, the problem is to find it: P

Like I said, S/D works fine. You trade out 3 second ambush kills in favor of control and malleable combat options. If you really want to force a glass cannon backstab build to kill a warrior you’ll have to feint their defensive cooldowns first instead of just doing your standard 100->0 rotation.
I like my D/D condition setup vs warriors…the key is to roll towards them LDB right out of it and roll a second time immediately afterwards giving them no window to actually hit you. From there just stay out of melee range till endurance is back up and repeat. IN the event that they do manage to get a immobilize in pop withdraw or roll for initiative and resume your “hit and run” tactics. If knocked down, steal from them or use shadowstep.
Most Warriors don’t beat me as P/P. Maybe you just need to pick your utility skills better. Kite or stealth the invuln if that is the problem you are having.
if you are a glass canon do NOT open with your burst or you will most likely waste it and die horribly if he is a good player, just avoid being hit and let him waste his CD’s wile hitting him moderately saving init. THEN move in for the bust.
and the rune of superior scholar is good about a thief? which is great sigil on the weapon?
I use Rune of the Adventurer x6, Superior Sigil of Corruption, and Superior Sigil of Agony for my D/D condition/acro build.

P/P is awesome keeps distance is always a bad time for the warriors :P For utilities I keep switching, I think now i’m liking caltrops, nothing better than to see people limping towards u
And I totally agree with Volrath. Opening with critters is a terrible idea. For glassie cannons it’s essential that we time our attacks.
keeps distance is always a bad time for the warriors :P
If they decided not to bring any long range options, even though they have two max-range weapons, they deserve to be kited.
haha there’s so many warriors in wvw that doesn’t bring their rifle :P there’s somebody that was talking about that the other day :P
Depends who lands their CC quickness insta gib combo first.

“Has a chance”? Warrior is the easiest for me to beat. That profession is handicapped. Outside of the 100b combo, it’s really easy to make the Warrior play by your rules. And even if something goes wrong, he won’t be able to chase you down, so just go away and come back later.
Now, I’m playing a Daze Thief, which is pretty good at 1v1, but even as P/P or S/P, I’ve not had any troubles. It’s all about avoiding/countering Bolas and Bull’s Charge.
Tanky Warriors can be a problem, because their damage to survivability ratio is so higher than yours they just outlast you, but even those are possible to beat with good timing on interrupts and Poison to counter healing.
Bad news first:
Against a good Warrior there is no way to win through burst.
Against burst Thieves I simply EP then open with quick stunlock combos for 12-14k total, then if they run I toss a 8k goodbye Volley to close the deal.
Against dodgy ones I outlast them – though most times those get to escape my hands before I finish the job.
Against condition Thieves it’s a close call. I wait until they stack all bleeds (out of init) then remove them all with Mending and heal the damage they did so far, but they are very slippery so the thing gets long unless someone else jumps in.
Against pistol whip thieves… easiest fight of my life, Balanced Stance/Last Stand = 20s immunity to stun, gg, just save time and ready your cursor on waypoint.
Now the good news.
Most Warriors are awful terribad failscrubs of noobdom.
They don’t know anything of the above, will just frenzy->bull’s charge->Hb and chicken away if it fails, perhaps doing some very laughable Whirling Axe during the process as a confirmation of they bad status.
If you meet these types, please do your worst on them, and wave them on my behalf.

I find good warriors stacking power/toughness/vit with double endure pain to be impossible because of their mobility/damage when using their skills properly, the better warriors will also have a ranged weapon if they burn all their mobility/snares and still can’t get to you. They’ll win in trades because they have 2 endure pains and twice your HP.
Thankfully most are horrible or glass cannons with no endure pain.
its allways fun to have warriors chasing after you, they are so full of them self, i dont know which thiefes they ususally run across but i have such easy cat play time with them its hillarious, run to make sure 1 vs 1, stealth when he goes bersek, play with him and kill, dont panic, thats the only thing
My room mate plays warrior and I play thief, he hasn’t beaten me in 1v1 pvp yet
I play P/D condition thief, my build is: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fYQQRAqY8YlcmKPHfy9E95EB3Dma0k69gsj1saFoJA
I personally gear towards Toughness, Healing, and most importantly Condition Damage
Basically stealth with Cloak and Dagger, this blinds the warrior and grants you regeneration, open up with sneak attack, applying 5 stacks of bleed, make sure to take advantage of the caltrops to apply more bleeds and shadow refuge when you’re hurting.
Your basic rotation would be Cloak and Dagger > Sneak Attack > Vital Shot > Vital Shot > Repeat.
This keeps regeneration up most of the time, keeps the bleeds on thick, and keeps the enemy blinded. If he’s using an attack that you need to interrupt and you can’t blind him use Steal to daze him.
This is the build I’ve leveled with since day 1 and I haven’t grown bored of it yet.

Noticed how you failed to mention P/D could it be because you don’t see it much (since least played style). Either way I rarely have issue with warrior over all it has the least amount if skills to counter my build. Warriors are by no mean a free kill but are usually not all that hard to handle.

Warriors easy kill for me, it all depends on timing and avoiding their important abilities.
Alts: Warrior, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist (bunker)
Well lastnight I ran into a warrior who would just do the following over and over,
Pop haste→Bull charge → Hundred blades
That kitten is annoying
dodge or evade.

Hard to evade when you’re doing the jump puzzle and pop out of the well to get blind sides by that.
Didn’t know there are jumping puzzles in sPvP
