I was just wondering if there were any standard WvW zerg builds for Thieves?

I appreciate that the vast majority of Thieves prefer to run solo or in small groups in WVW but surely some of us like to run in zergs right?

For the record, i run double Pistols and have built my Thief into a strong zerging toon. Ive built him very different from anything ive read anywhere on the forums so maybe im unique? lol

To be brief, ive made a ‘Vampire Thief’ who basically selfheals for all of the damage he dishes out. Gear is gemmed into healing but stats are for Power/Precision/Crit for the damage. Elite skill Daggerstorm is awesome cos i can jump into massive enemy zergs and survive fine, even solo. Im dealing massive damage and selfhealing while im doing it so i hardly ever die. After the Daggerstorm i can vanish to break everyone whose targetted me and then smack them from range with pistols when i reappear.

My build isnt exclusively for zerging as its very useful for small groups as well and also great for Dungeons and Fractals (got to lev25 fractals with zero AR). It is however pretty weak for 1 v 1.

Anyone else run anything similiar to this?

And does anyone have any other great Theif zerg builds?

for zerg in wvw, try pvt gear, vennom share and 30/0/30/10/0

1dagger storm,
2.vennom share, then spam poison field+signet of malice & auto attack
3.collect loot bags

easy as pie

Since Gunslingers don’t have AoE, what do you do about the other 69 enemy players when your Daggerstorm is on cooldown?

Like i said, i pick them off from the sides.

Basically i have very high single target damage and i mop up the downed guys, knock down the low health guys too. Generally, ensuring my zerg can rally anyone whose been downed.

Then due to my speed i can hunt down the guys trying to escape.

I specced the build intentionally for hit and run then support.

Note: after every 50 v 50 zerg smashup i usually get over 20 bags sometimes over 30 so i know im doing shedloads of damage to alot of their players :P

Can use SB as secondary it tags tons of players as well. The poison field is amazing for that.

I just have high DMG and shoot tons of ppl at once with my SB and get 20 thousand loot bags. ;/ Isn’t too complex or difficult. If I wanted to pick someone off from the side I’d just immobilize them or steal and stabby. SB stealth attack is the ultimate middle finger in zergs. I couldn’t imagine guns ever being more effective in dmg nor better at getting bags.

Pretty much what Doggie said, any thief build can be zerg viable because in the end your job as a thief is the same, wittle down the enemy zerg by picking out targets and eliminating one by one

When playing with and against zergs, I prefer SB, because of the massive AoE damage burst from range with cluster bomb, as well as mobility, evasion and the poison combo field.
S/D or S/P as secondary. Infiltrators Strike > Daggerstorm > Shadow Return.

0/30/10/30/0 – High damage, resilient and allows you to dodge 3 times in a row if needed.
0/30/15/25/0 – Same as above with 1 second longer stealth.

Offensive-Support build:
30/0/30/10/0 – Venomous Aura, like mentioned in the second post. Shares your venoms to nearby allies (Immobilize, Chill, Poison, Vulnerability, Stun), also shares the benefits from your traits: 2 stacks of might per venom, life steal on hit, an extra hit per venom.

2 – teleport to said field
3 – daggerstorm
4 – GTFO

Spam cluster bomb, poison fields and sb auto attacks, generally best choice unless you see a good ds or stolen axe opportunity.

S/P as a secondary set because:
-Infiltrator’s strike is godly
-unhasted pw evade time last a long time, and even if the target avoid most pw damage it will still pack quite a punch (maybe even kill), also infiltrator’s strike -> pw -> return is almsot 100% safe and since it’s aoe might actually do even more damage than you would expect. Also you can generally spam several pw + dodge and after you use return your sb will once again be available to use.
-infiltrator’s strike -> black powder -> dagger storm (blinding bolts) -> return. If you use signet of malice it can make you quite tanky. You can also use the sb for a poison field, teleport to it with infiltrator’s strike or shadow step (target the closest enemy) and ds.
-Try stealing some warriors or rangers (aoe heal with clusterbomb, might aswell support your allies a bit if you can, especially if no rangers layed some healing springs :<) and use shadow return from infiltrator’s strike to go back to a safe position. Stealing a thief can be quite useful to pick up someone escaping by using the sb stealth skill, necro isn’t bad either.

That being said i like my necro better for zergs.

It’s not my fault if S/P is not popular !!!

What weapon and utility’s are you using? Looking for a new build and this sounds promising. Although I would be stuck in crafted gear. Out of the crafted set what would you recommend?

What weapon and utility’s are you using? Looking for a new build and this sounds promising. Although I would be stuck in crafted gear. Out of the crafted set what would you recommend?

I wouldnt play a venom share build because it’s not really good, venoms in general aren’t very good for a zerg build. Especially because you have to put 30 into SA and SA is a waste in a zerg build.

Try this build:

0 / 30 / 0 / 25 / 15

Utilitys use SoM, Refugee, Shadowstep, Signet of Agility (Active effect is a live safer), Daggerstorm

Stats you should aim for:

3k Attack+,18k+ HP+, 50%+ crit chance, 70%+ Crit Damage, 2,4k+ Armor

Main Weapon is the Shortbow u will be on this 95% of the time, it’s a very very strong AoE weapon. Second Weapon Set i recommend S/P or D/P.
