Thiefs and high latency (sPvP). Viable?
Obviously when you play a squishy burst class reliant on movement and “twitch” gameplay having high ping is a liability
Try Warr/Guard/Ele/Engi where making one mistake won’t bring you into downstate
Well, the problem is I didn’t enjoy War/Guard/Ele/Engi
But yeah, if it’s rally unplayable on high level sPvP then I guess I gotta abandon my thief =/
I have slight issues with this, as I am in Germany. I’ll be honest, on some days I can’t even play anything competitive because any mobility skills are useless. However, the majority of the time it isn’t bad. I don’t know if that helps though because you’re in Brazil. Sorry I can’t help more.
I play from Japan and can be hell, especially when encountering other thieves; dead before I realize I’m being attacked sometimes. However, it’s not entirely game breaking, if you enjoy the class then play it, Yes you are at a disadvantage but there’s nothing you can do about it. If you learn to anticipate the other classes and time your own dodges carefully, you’ll give a few others hell too.
Boost your health and armor a little to take a couple hits instead of running pure offensive stats like a majority of thieves.
I do play Thief from Brasil.
Depends entirely on the day.
Its viable.
Then again, I DO rage all the time when I cast SR and it takes like 2 seconds to go down.
If your latency is around 120ms every class is still viable, you just need to think a step further.
I play from Japan, so average about 200 ping.
At the end of the day it comes down to what you consider “viable.”
Lets just say that if you are good enough, ping won’t matter for 99% of the opponents you play against in this game.
However against that 1% that it does matter against, whatever profession you choose to play is irrelevant.

It can be done but you’ll often times be aware of it and it will certainly decrease your effectiveness some. The higher the lag the larger the chance for ports to rubberband it seems like.
If you like thief then play it regardless of lag. In my experience, d/p is better to play with lag because blinds and stealth will protect you regardless of timing. This is different than s/d, where you have to see a skill and react by evading it. Lag completely destroys s/d’s viability. You’ll see an evicerate and dodge it then see most your health go away anyways =/

Thief is more heavy lag friendly, as in if you lag, the displayed body and the “actuall player” are not in the same spot ( body lag), but you can use auto pilot to find the enemy eaiser and land your attacks lol
sure, thief will die fast when only thief lag~

Thief is very lag unfriendly actually because your character will attempt to hit the other, and even with leaps, once the system recognizes where your hit is, the other play may not be there anymore.
The only time what you’re describing happens is when a player is entirely static (i.e. down), but not displaying correctly to you.
Attached is a .gif showing how the high prevents you from hitting even though you are right next to your target.

Yeah….. high ping and/or packet loss is extremely frustrating for playing thief. I have other clips of getting hit mid dodge, but this was a clip that allowed people to easily see the effect of lag on thief play.
