Thieves in dungeon
stealth is mainly for skipping trash. and new content like the new twilight arbor path dont have such. because anet does not like trash skipping as far as i know.
I agree that blind is ok as support to prevent some damage.
But the main problem is that the thief has nothing special that would be of any use.
blast finisher for might? → warriors easy might
Smoke screen? → guardian wall has longer duration + reflect. but still somewhat useful for stealth
I think the main reason a party should take a thief… is to skip trash mobs. And that is bad.
But there are other classes that have quite the same problem.
At the moment only guardian, mesmer and warrior have something great enough to choose them for a party.
Thief is just hard to play of course in zerker gear . I only
Use mine in CM to skip trash . Warrior can take more hits , has more
Support and deals better damage . A thief is pretty much useless
Right now .
I don’t really think it’s the support or damage that has turned people off Thieves.
It’s the fact that they are probably the most frequently downed class in game and players are sick of reviving them. I can see why. The combination of low survivability and melee results in a lot of instant-gibs.
Skilled play and experience can compensate for a lot of this but it doesn’t change the sour image most people have of Thieves.
I agree with you regarding the bad perception of thieves in dungeons: most players are just autoattack/hs spam drones, and aren’t even able to avoid damage while doing that, going down so often that in the end that kind of thief is a liability in the party instead of an help.
But sometimes even other classes don’t help us in helping them: I’ve seen countless times players using #1 downed skill, even after I warned them (at the start of the dng) “hey guys, I’m bringing Shadow Refuge, pls DON’T spam downed #1 when I use it”.
Or the countless times when a LB ranger (kitten them) uses Point Blank Shot while I just start my Pistol Whip. And so on.
it’s much much better to take a noob warrior or a noob guardian, than a noob thief
now you tell me if this is balanced

The only thief that can dungeon effectively is a good thief and we all know how rare that species is.

… this is why people dont like thieves, because people rarely see a decent thief so they dont know how strong a good thief is, for example i can nearly double my wars damage with d/d and with the same buffs (both of course using meta builds and full zerker + scholar +20% damage sigils), not to mention black powder (especially in high fractals) makes your party nearly invincible to trash mobs, shadow refuge (do i really need to explain this?) and smoke screen
i find it hard to sustain dps with a thief. you can’t sit their and wail on a mob like a warrior does. sometimes you have to stealth and backstab.
pistol/pistol thieves with bounce are great imo. You can spam #4 and keep a mob dazed for a long time if you can manage your initiative well.

the majority of your sustained dps comes from cnd+bs spam and your right staying in melee range with a thief is a whole lot harder than a warrior, it requires almost perfect dodging
