Thieves are meant to be masters of deceit, assassination and all round get up close and personal. We all know the classic archetype from fantasy novels and their ability to turn the tables on bigger opponents with clever martial arts or moves which disarm/parry larger weapons.

I was thinking of making our F key options a little broader in these terms:

F1 – Steal
F2 – Parry+riposte (if timed before a hit will reflect damage)(lasts 2 seconds on same timer as steal)
F3 – Disguise (Take the appearance of a random npc/mob for 20 seconds/or until you attack).

I just feel (as many others form previous posts) The F key funtions need to be expanded upon.

they change our role to
Thieves use their initiative to fuel their weapon skills, dishing out far much harder quick as any other class chains of useless damage which is 80% blocked or missed, before slipping away into the shadows or their death. The other part of their speciality is stealing – each enemy has a number of items which provide stolen skills to the thief to turn the fight to their opponent favor. Their unique attribute increases their Steal Recharge Rate. and now may be called Rallybot

I actually liked the 3rd option, while we’re at it, make it we represent the npcs as well. With this we can hide all day long with ambient creatures and strike the people that come to get their stack.

Edit: Would actually be funny to see a map queue but no one is there because everyone is in disguise.

What do you mean by “high dodge”?

arguable… either make it active and give high vigor+stability for short amount of time or have passive dodge, for example have 75% chance for attacks directed at you to miss for brief period of time… just branstorming here though

Yeah and no, it’s datamined, but looks accurate (warrior – op).

Well, after reading through some of the dev posts I don’t think this will shake up the thief heals nearly as much as expected (if true).

Aside: What’s with pushing venoms/venomous aura so hard lately? I mean in a vacuum they’re alright, but compared to something like mantras (group stability, group condi cleanse, group heal) there would never be a reason to take a venom share support thief over a mantra mesmer or shout warrior (if you’re looking for a support person).

Back to the healing topic: This would have to be insanely powerful or on short CD to make me take it over withdraw. And if they nerf withdraw to push it (general trend of thief balance) I would go back to HiS before I took this as it provides powerful tools both offensively and defensively.

I can see that being nerfed! So OP unlike the warrior’s.

Also notice it has a heal amount… meaning it’s not you deal 6k you get healed for 6k (or hell even a precentage would be nice)… it scales with healing power ergo SoM is better (since it’s not kittens or not 30 seconds)

It’s likely the total heal amount will be similar or greater than HiS though. It’s instant cast but has no stealth, it’s 45 CD vs 30 without trait. But it can be venom shared so …

have to admit, most of the new healing skills are offensive skills, guess they want to push bursting to counter the condi bunker meta now.

Yes thieves should get a parry move but it fits badly into the initiative system. The underwater block is situationally perfect or quite useless (multiple enemies hit through the block response) which is a classic broken skill.

WTB Thief being more like Assassin. Stooping to petty Thievery has ruined us. We’ve lost touch with our roots and have become weaker, less intelligent (forgot how to use majority of our weapon pool; lost touch with our “Way of the Master.”) and more helpless; unable to go toe to toe with enemies like we use to through parrying and blocking attacks. Such a sad, sad fate.

All I know is several times I’ve seen that word “Venom” in patch notes with minor tweaks and changes with nothing of real value fixed/buffed and it always kitten es me off or makes me /facepalm because it’s such a boring POS mechanic.

and with the heal skill~ Assassin’s Reward? Yeah GL with me going 30 Acro and 30 Trickery so I can have no S/D DMG at all. I enjoy Sword&Steal builds a lot but the patch just tosses it into the trash bin. The whole trickery line will serve no purpose beyond condi builds if we’re forced to spec so far into acrobatics to work around the survival nerf. Even then it’s still basically RIP Sleight of Hands.

I was a Thief in Dark Souls too, except I used Claw. Light the thing on fire with Charcoal Resin and parrystab people in the stomach with it. <3
If you didn’t play GW1 Assassins didn’t have stealth, they were block tankers + shadowstepping ~ also death blossom did high crit damage instead of condition dmg only. It was so beautiful.

See look at that. Claw, Parrying and Burn condition right there. I made a Claw thread before a while back that was dedicated to bringing back Assassin-like block/parry gameplay from GW1.

Dagger/sword would be a ridiculous combination but a crossed swords parry would be a good dual skill animation for sword/sword.

Dagger/sword would be a ridiculous combination but a crossed swords parry would be a good dual skill animation for sword/sword.

It would depend if sword offhand was given access to stealth. If it was made a stealthless weaponset then dagger main-hand wouldn’t be much of an issue.
