So I have been playing around with my thief for a while but t1 right now has been a zerg fest so I was thinking on how to retain high damage along with having decent hp and armor even with the past critical damage/ferocity nerf I found this setup pretty good having 2.2k power 2.6k armor 15k hp and 215% on critical damage…

I was surprised with the damage that rune of air lightning strike can hit for over 5k when it crits….

I wouldn’t use rune of air. It has 3 useless effects. Pack or strength are much better imo.

I used air since its cheap and it makes up for the loss of ferocity due to the switch of armor I know theres also rune of rage but I used air for the swiftness duration and swiftness on heal since the cd for withdraw is pretty short and I get enough fury when I roam with a group…. the only downside to this imo is when you get hit while in stealth and lightning procs due to it being 50% chance so you’ll have to start counting when your foe gets struck by lightning which I have already adapted to so I dont get revealed…

This is roughly what I’m running. It has only 30 less armor and 800 less health than your build, however, it has a much higher damage output and group synergy (imo) than your build. This is due to 4% higher crit dmg and + 6% (+ 13% when striking from sides and behind) crit chance over your stats. Rune of the Pack can also proc bringing my max possible crit chance to 77% which is very deadly. It also applies to nearby allies which boosts their dps nicely as well. I also have Sigil of air on my dagger which adds a nice bit of damage.

IMO, D/D can no longer rely on merely backstabs. Crit chance is important now for D/D to pick up on the damage lost from backstab.

You really don’t need any toughness at all when playing D/D

I crafted my Thief to 80 in a day, bought a zerker set and jumped right into WvW with D/D.
I’m by no means an elitist or think I’m above average, but I can honestly say I have still barely died to this date.

You have so much stealth that you can heal any raw damage dealt in no time, you also have a ton of escapes and evades.

After the recent patch I moved 30 points from Critical Strikes into Deadly Arts.
With this build you heal roughly 600 health every second in stealth. You really don’t need toughness.

With the WvW bonus, 25 stacks of Bloodlust and Revealed Training trait, you’re pushing 3.2k power BEFORE Might.

I do understand your build. Your choice of Rune of Air and high toughness tells me that you want to get hit to trigger the lightning strike. Judging from your skill choices, you have the stealth only as a backup strategy, not the main one, and you don’t plan on staying in stealth longer than necessary.

However, the problem with Rune of Air is that the lightning strike can trigger when being hit with an AoE and it spell trouble while you’re in stealth because it will reveal you.

But I think it will work out well if you know what you’re doing.

This is only good for ganking people 1v1 and running for life. Also, you have roughly 1/3 chance to proc crit on backstab. DEADinNOtime. No chance of winning 1v2+ vs at least half-decent players. But kudos for good troll.

Yes I do not plan on remaining in stealth for a long time unlike d/p or even d/d stealth everything on utility thieves I stay aggressive and can take the damage dealt to me I have been running this build for only a week or so and I have won against 1v2 even rare 1v3 situations against 2 warriors and a d/p thief… and yes there are times that lightning strike while im in stealth ruins it but that is my error since I usually use my stealth after the lightning strike as I time the cooldown for it properly and so far its been good to me so im sticking with this since im not really with the meta of strength runes with valk/zerk armors and lightning strike is very good since even if im running away getting hit by ranged opponents I can hit them for 5k~6k crits when it triggers I turn around CnD BS burst dead!

Please be a troll.. because if not I’ll just call that build stupid i’m sorry but DPS thief with nothing on Critical Strikes is dumb…
