I started playing thief today and I don’t know what build to run :-/
Ranger was my class of choice until now, and it’s still a lot of fun.
But my pet makes most of my damage and I finally wanted to see some nice numbers

What build would you run for tPvP roaming?
I want to try some nice burst builds, mybe D/D or something like that which offers a good amount of defense.

With my ranger I used to laugh about thiefs because all the could do against me was to run away. Now I see the challange and want to try it myself

If you want to burst in tPvP, run D/P SB 25/30/0/0/15 with basilisk venom. If you want more tankiness at the cost of a little less burst (about 1-2k less on bs, low crit outside of bs), run D/P 10/30/30/0/0 with soldier’s amulet and hidden killer trait in CS.

the only way you will see nice numbers from thief anymore is if you get massive might bursts e.g. through signets of power. Otherwise…other classes do more burst damage.

a-net does not want more thief users, that’s why they nerf it so much

When I leveled I went D/D the whole way. The first thing I would get is 15 in acrobatics for feline grace, after that just pick stuff that sounds cool and play with it. Once you get around level 60, find a build you think you want and use that build and play style. Unless your trying to power your way up, I suggest trying every weapon combo and play with different trait lines to see what you want. Once you pick some core traits, you can build around them.

Get Caltrops ASAP and avoid P/P unless you’re fighting a single boss with a bunch of other people.

Those are the main two things you need to know.

i just tried pistol dagger condition thief yesterday! posted a video on thief forum and in just 1 day (5hours pvp) i mastered it! and for me its the easiest thief build to play. unlike the S/D hardest one! followed by D/P

Sword/pistol with short bow. The pistol 5 skill will mitigate a lot of damage, and you’ll be able to hit multiple targets with the sword main hand. Stack power as high as you can go. Use Minor/Major Bloodlust Sigils, and power runes (1 Hoelbrak, 1 Balthazaar, etc.) for another 10 power in each armor piece.

If you don’t like sword/pistol for leveling, just use whatever weapon combination you want to be comfortable with when you’re leveled up for practice.

I played for a few hours yesterday and I found that dagger/pistol was the best with a short bow
