Traits you think a thief should have
http://www.youtube.com/user/randomfightfan/videos?view=0&flow=grid
I use death lotus when I don’t have endurance, so I basically sacrifice damage for survivability, and since I’m a burst thief I don’t feel rewarded dumping my initiative into a move that’s completely useless to my build, I wouldn’t mind the traits to diversify the class, but I also wouldn’t mind a trait that makes death lotus do more solid dmg and less condi dmg.. I feel like I have to play condi thief to make good use of death lotus, but then I sacrificed burst etc.
Thief seems like the only class that gets a couple useless skills, just look at necro, axe/focus and sceptre/dagger.. Then a d/d thief gets stealth and strong burst skills, but then you get death blossom.. And I use death blossom.. Anyway I hate to sound like a broken record but I agree with op, the thief has a high skill cap outside of stealth abuse.
I think a trait that would definatly increse slipperynes would be a shadow step evade although that may be overpowered so maybe a cooldown or something on it and wepons were made to cover multiple roles so i dont see why they should change death blossom I love it for condition damge but there also alot of useless skills on their for my build but i dont say things like hearseeker needs to deal condition instead of burst damge and thiefs are rewarded for being slippery with things like might and switnesss on doge as well a damage increase when endurance is not full although i wouldnt mind a bit more

Thief type of traits… ore traits to support STEALING abilities and stealth/being slippery.
Majority of the player base that plays thief play it like an assassin. I know it has a very high burst damage thing going, but it would be nice for the thief to feel like a thief and not like a rogue or assassin or the typical kitten kitten all class. Warriors feel like warriors, ele feels like ele and same goes for rangers, necros, mesmers, engis and guardians.
Thief is being used in a very contradicting way by majority. Not to say that that’s bad but it is very un-interesting.
I mean so what if you can one shot people. That happens in every other military shooter. Head shot, quick kills, kittening and complaining. Why is that so appealing to people.
As an idea,
How cool would it be if you were able to steal in to your opponent grab them and port with them away form the scene. This could be done to a foe or a friend.
I’m currently using a d/p build. My build is not glass exactly but close, and its good for what the thief can do; it works great!
I wish that this wasn’t the case though.
If any one is a real stealth gameplay fan, I’m sure you have played great classics like thief and thief 2.
It would be great to have thief feel like the experience you have playing the thief games.
Any way, to add to the actual post’s question I’d say: Add traits that bolster stealth, stealing, disguise skills, feign death skills.
For example:
I love shadow refuge and the amount of help it contributes to a smart group in pve and pvp.
Skills like that should be more important to be used than hitting heart seeker for the kill.
Imo, the way I picture thief is not a high burst dmg class.
Thanks.
^ Thief gets played like an Assassin because that is what they are replacing from GW1.
Man I’d get a trait to heal you for warping to someone with more health than you.
I’ll call it Deaths charge.

I’ll call it Deaths charge. The Deaths Charge idea is actually really nice!
I mean why give Initiative, such a flexible method for fighting, to abilities that can melt face in seconds. Won’t that just add more problems as it already is?
Now imagine if initiative was used more for something like “death’s charge” or more stealing/stealth/ heal your friend/stealth your friend related abilities. Let the warriors cave in skulls have the thief be more sophisticated in its play.

sounds like you want to use scorpion wire or d/p 3 on something that is reflecting (engi with his shield on, dagger storming thief, magnetic aura ele, reflecting shield war and reflection on distortion mes). That combo reflects the projectile that shadowsteps you to your target and instead makes the target shadowstep to you.

idk what you’re saying here (or in the next part but w/e) but it sounds like you might like playing mesmer more than thief.

lots of potential with this! Like steal 50% of the difference in health, non negate-able damage. Would be pretty bawler

I don’t think of a thief as breaking skulls, I think of them more as the ones who can get in and out undetected and quickly remove certain obstacles that are in their way.

Indiscriminate Theft: This trait allows the thief to use steal on allys, warping to them and giving the thief a class based item
Crime of Opportunity: 10% chance on attack to allow a theft without shadowstep and a 10% chance to keep a stolen item on use.
