Traps, traits, and a rant
Wow, so awkward. I am in the middle of making a trap build for my thief atm(sPvP). I came to this forum to see if anyone else felt that traps were kind of misplaced. Or even why they exist.
Imo, you are not overreacting, traps/condi builds/p/p is definitely a joke. All the condi builds thieves have are bleed based, and venoms are pretty bad without venom share.
Traps seriously need to be looked. As well does P/P. I do appreciate the S/D buffs and the boon hate viability. But they pushed these other traits, and abilities aside, and put them on hold.

I agree except for the traits part. You have 5 good and viable trait lines, maybe the only class that really does

The trait lines alone are good but the runes for the traits is what I am talking more about. Should have clarified that sorry.
A lot of them feel out of place and very random and most of them feel like they where made for PvE.

Eh, better than most. The attribute pairs are particularly good.
Deadly Arts and to a lesser extent Trickery and Critical Strikes each have garbage for Major traits though. Although the Grandmaster Critical Strikes traits are insane.
Broken Scorpion wire is major annoyance, i dont know how it remains unfixed for so long. It would be a great skill if it actually ever worked.
The only trap that is worthy of the utility slot is Ambush. The rest should be F3-F4 so we can use them in conjunction with venom.
Example:
F1 – Steal
F2 – Needle Trap
F3 – Tripwire
F4 – Shadow Trap
Then we can get new Utility skills to fill the 3 spots.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
We have alot of traits that are just all over the place, many of them need to be combined and some buffed.
According to arena net we are supposed to be the most mobile class in the game and yet we are the third most mobile class in the game behind ele’s and mes’s
Stop doing drugs. No class in the game even comes close to a Thief’s mobility, let alone a mesmer. Warriors and Eles can have similar “burst” mobility, but in sheer “warping all over the place” or long distance running, nothing beats a Thief.
Am I over reacting or do i bring up some good points?
Mostly overreacting and don’t know what you’re talking about.
PP does need some changes.
The reason mug doesn’t crit anymore is because Thieves had too much burst. “Instagib” isn’t a mechanic ANet wants to reward in this game, and in order to give the thieves better survivability they had to take away some of the burst.
Condition damage builds are perfectly legitimate, you just need to know how to play and use them.
Likewise for glass cannon. In fact, Thief is mostly a glass cannon class, due to its own mechanics rewarding it – Thief’s defensive potential isn’t tanking, it’s their disengage. An unsuccessful disengage is gonna hurt anyways, as that’s your main damage mitigation tool, and a successful disengage results in minimal damage anyways. As such, the class as a whole emphasizes damage more than survivability in its stats, more so than other classes.
2/3 good/legitimate builds is more than many other classes have.
Stop doing drugs.
That was uncalled for. The concerns presented are valid based on the poster’s point of view and/or experience. If you believe them to be invalid, then address the points presented and not accuse the poster of taking drugs.

I like this idea. It would make them much, MUCH more viable. Also at risk of maybe buffing them to, and allowing them to hit more then one target would be nice.

I love this idea as well! Hell im all for putting ambush trap in replace of steal. I find it to be a silly mech anyway.

100% agree to this comment. It simply feels like they took a dart board and put traits where ever they landed.
Stop doing drugs. No class in the game even comes close to a Thief’s mobility, let alone a mesmer. Warriors and Eles can have similar “burst” mobility, but in sheer “warping all over the place” or long distance running, nothing beats a Thief.
First of all, great mature comment, really makes you look all grown up. Second the mesmer and ele are both way more mobile then the thief is currently. Any good mesmer or ele will just run circles around you and laugh.
Mostly overreacting and don’t know what you’re talking about.
Again such a mature and helpful comment. Stating comments like these and the one above just make you look foolish and no one will take you seriously.

Sword/Warhorn + Greatsword warrior is mighty quick too you know.

That would be the day I started playing religiously again.

I honestly think this would be amazing. Change all the traps so none of them have a super long CC. Needle trap would just cripple, Tripwire would knock down for 1.3 seconds, and Shadow Trap would stay the same.
I still stand by the get rid of steal.

I’m pretty sure OP is talking about in combat mobility. In that case, it stands truth for the mesmer, partially…

You are correct sir.
@Bazleel
Lolwat
Mesmers run circles around thieves? Have you ever played a Mesmer?? Obviousky not, Mesmer is one of if, not the slowest class in the game. Seriously, don’t go exaggerating information if you don’t know the truth.
Anyways I agree with you that traps need buffed. Trip Wire is nice in that it can hit multiple targets, but having to be in melee range with an extremely obvious trap setting animation isn’t really the best form of sneaky trap laying lol.

both wrong.
In-fight mobility = thief is champ
in run away race = warrior is champ
this is just not up for debate bc its obvious. if you can to challenge a race. bring 100g and we will bet who is best/faster i really hope somebody takes this bet!

Never denied the thief on that :P
Just saying mesmers aren’t “the slowest” class in combat.

Please tell me how we have mobility in combat? Shadowstep….thats it……
if built to take advantage of it thieves do get a lot of access to shadowsteps in combat, however out of combat we are actually fairly limited.
No real swiftness access outside of an acrobat traiting and spamming endurance means we are stuck with Signet of Shadows for the most part, then we only have a few shadowsteps that work outside of combat, one is a long cooldown utility the other is a high cost weapon skill.
Of course we can also heartseeker spam to try and get a bit of extra speed but that generally isn’t all that much faster.
So yes, in combat we do get a fair choice of ways to get into the enemy (although not quite so many to get out) and outside of combat we get some decent mobility but not quite as much as people imagine, before the RTL nerfs ele’s could easily outpace us due to the reuse and range on it (plus it gives them solid protection while thieves shadowstepping are prone to most things unless stealthed)
