Norn Guardian – Aurora Lustyr (Lv 80)
Mia A Shadows Glow – Human Thief (Lv 80)
I see Roll for Initiative competing with Shadowstep as a slot skill.
In order to make rfi more viable, I’d like to see it’s numbers tweaked.
The skills current behavior:
Evade backward to regenerate initiative and recover from crippled, chilled, and immobile.
Initiative gain: 6
Evade: ¾ s
Breaks Stun
Recharge: 60
Suggested behavior
Evade backward to regenerate initiative and recover from crippled, chilled, and immobile.
Initiative gain: 4
Evade: ¾ s
Breaks Stun
Recharge: 40
I don’t see this being a problem. If you trait for tricks its down to 48s for 6 initiative or you can trait for initiative with Heal and use withdraw. use both or neither. or one. personnaly withdraw is better with the trait since 4 per 15s and shadowstep

It’s not a problem the way it is, it’s just not viable.
Really if we are talking about non viable thief utility options Roll is the Least of our worries
Agree with Belarorn, RFI tweak isn’t the priority atm, but still i would love to play it if the skill was more viable. Actually swapping bountiful theft for trickster to reduce the CD is just meh….
But i like Shockwave idea: 40s CD, 3/4s evade, even 2-3 ini gain would be nice since it already cleaning movement impeding condition..
Shockwave, can you at least clarify and explain why you feel this way.
You’re making statements without providing any reasoning. Is it RFI by itself, or RFI compared to Shadowstep, or what? Is it the initiative or the cooldowns?
There’s not enough here for me to form my own opinion about your opinion.
Shadow step is clearly superior currently. Both skills play the same roles mostly.
They both avoid damage, are free roaming mobility, stun breakers, and condition removal.
Shadow step can be used to confuse foes and stomp, roll for initiative can be use to recoup initiative in combat.
If you look at the similarities and differences though Shadow step is just better.
Numbers tweaks would make roll for initiative a viable initiative feeding alternative, without one of either skill holding a clear overall advantage.
Honestly, I do think Shadowstep is a better skill, but that’s for my builds and playstyle. I haven’t really used RFI since the old D/D bacon winged unicorn evade thing, even though I get urges when I think about running the orb on Spirit Watch.
Curious, what set up do you run? Also, is this overall, WvW, PvP?

Pvp, standard D/P is what I would sub it into. The extra initiative is what I want to play with more of.
The value is more to finish with or getting a quicker infiltrator’s arrow to escape on top of condi cc clear.
