Has anyone here actually considered making a build around this skill? It seems like an awful idea to give up 2 offhand skills. I wonder why they needed this slot filler.

It’s because everyone starts with a one-hander, and since the thief’s off-hand helps determine the 3 skill, they thought it better they give the thief something, rather then nothing before the thief gets a proper off-hand. It’s pretty much supposed to go unused after the tutorial.

The one-handed dual skills are basically just weaker versions of what you would get if you were dual-wielding that weapon.

  • Twisting Fangs [D/-] is like Death Blossom [D/D]
  • Repeater [P/-] is like Unload [P/P]
  • Stab [S/-] is just a slightly stronger basic attack. You can’t dual-wield swords, so there’s nothing to mimic.

They adressed this question already. The thief’s no-offhand skills only exist so that theives aren’t stuck with less skills than the other classes during the tutorial. They were never intended for long term use, as dual skills are a class-defining thief mechanic and thieves are all intended to dual wield (unless you’re holding a shortbow, which you probably won’t get before you pick up an offhand)
