Uncatchable trait not worth it? (Caltrops on dodge)
Tried it and wasn’t impressed.
Yeah I traited into Uncatchable as soon as I could and kept for a while even though I found it underwhelming (the description is misleading as the effect are much less powerful than the utility skill of the same name).
As you found, it’s area of effect is very small, I’ve found it almost never applies even when an enemy is chasing directly behind you.
I stopped traiting it don’t miss it at all.
I tried it and the issue I had with it was that the caltrops don’t last very long at all verses the caltrops utility skill. I love this skill and thought the trait would give me the effect freeing up a utility slot for something else. It was very unimpressive.

I moved the 10 points from trickery into deadly arts. I tried improvisation (the one that recharges signet, trick, deception and venom etc). Boy was I pumped up after noticing this talent, retrained my traits immediately to put the 10 points there. But then the dissapointment came… Improvisation doesn’t do anything…. it is unreliable just like uncatchable. Why are so many thief traits so unreliable?
Here this was my build… and I want to move those 10 points in Trickery somewhere else. What suggestions do you guys have?
I can’t seem to be able to figure out what to invest in, other then Improvisation (Deadly Arts) or Uncatchable (Trickery)… but both being unreliable and not working, I am at a loss what next to do with my build now.

Dont use it. The cripple effect only last 2 or 3 seconds or something. Same with bleed. It only starts stacking if the target is silly enough to stand around in it.
try something like this
Solid dagger build, but I am shortbow user.
Besides, the Acrobatics tree is literally a godsent for ranged. Expeditious Dodger, Vigirous Recovery (combining this with Withdraw) and Feline Grace. I would not be able to live without these.
I tried moving the 10 points from Trickery into Deadly Arts for Improvisation, but as I said, both Uncatchable and Improvisation are unreliable and don’t even work. I am really surprised Improvisation went past the beta phase of this game. I just tested it and it doesnt do anything, I wish it could reset my shadowstep.
It’s good when you’re training through mobs you don’t want to fight, dodge right through them, you go faster, they go slower.
You pretty much have to roll right through them to get it to work though.
Yeh even then, when I go right trough them, sometimes this trait still behaves odd and unpredictable.
I’m going to buy 2 pistols, see if I can have a better build. It seems shortbow builds are kinda restricted.
Little underpowered. Get thrill of the crime!
However, when paired up with due amounts of dodge spamming either through the energy sigil, signet of agility, and/or vigor traits, you do gain some synergy as you can place down far more caltrops while your slot skill is recharging.

Remember you can swap major traits freely out of combat. So you can take thrill of the crime when you want swiftness or when you want to do more damage in combat by stealing to buff you and allies, and then switch to uncatchable when you’re going through orr training some of the mobs (unfortunately not risen putrifiers, those mobs single handedly make all the orr zones miserable and unfun) to gather orichalcum.
There seems to be a long delay from when i use it to when they become effective. Maybe 1-2 seconds from when they are fired to when they “land on the ground and start doing what they do”. You can find minor use for it on stationary mobs to help build some bleed stacks, but it’s pretty useless when you actually need it for what it is (should be). That is, when something is chasing you and you’re low on initiative/health, so you want some distance to avoid damage for a while. Since every mob and their grandmother runs faster then you, paired with the delay on the effect, most mobs just run through it without being affected, even if they are a fair bit behind you to begin with.
Hrm. Hopefully the devs pay attention to this and give the trait a bit of a buff. Otherwise, this trait will go largely unused.
You know what they say about the leading man? He never dies.
I think it is at lower levels.
Its to small and doesn’t last very long so you cant leave it out like the normal caltrops. You pretty much have to be in melee range, then you dodge the attack and they are standing right in the caltrops. If your kiting try running right up to them till they stop and start an attack animation. It sounds odd, but works much better.
Its is supposed to give you distance over targets that chase you in melee giving you more room. I find its very usuful for kiting people away and casuing them to use more tools than they want to catch up.
I used it all the time in Beta and eventually on release it seemed like the radius was reduced and it wouldn’t trigger on people in melee range anymore unless they stepped forward, so I stopped using it.
