Vault - only skill in game you can't cancel
Vault needed more counter play and that is what was implemented. I understand your general point but Vault has always been a skill like no other so it having limitations makes sense at least to me.

I understand that, but vault already had counterplay because its evade didn’t last the full duration, and it was easy to dodge. Now you literally cannot use staff in thief vs thief because its a guaranteed steal+backstab for the other thief.
Some of us didn’t just spam vault over and over with bound. The tracking update only really helped the people that vault spam. Staff was a useful secondary until now.

The interrupt window was very short and required a good connection with a fast trigger finger. That window got slightly larger best I can tell.
You most certainly can use Staff against other thieves still as Vault is not the only portion of that weapon that is a solid attack. Vault should have been a situational attack from the beginning but it was easy to spam effectively.

The fact that you can’t cancel vault any more makes no difference in thief vs thief. The only thing this affects is mobility while out of combat. Not sure what the big deal is. Sure, it’s annoying, but it really has no effect on any combat.

Are you really crying about vault? The skill needed more counter than this even so. Evade while doing 3x huge damage is too much.

In the volcanic fractal, while fighting the Legendary Imbued Shaman, I am unable to consistently Vault over the pulsing lava pits in the arena. Instead, my character stops moving once he is positioned over the lava pit, and I am forced to eat the damage, because I can’t weapon swap to cancel the skill when it fails to work properly.
I can no longer use staff for mobility in areas where enemies are present, because I can’t cancel the damage dealing portion of the skill, which means there is no way to avoid being put in combat when using vault. Furthermore, in a raid setting, if my target location becomes compromised after I activate the skill, there is nothing I can do to avoid landing in that spot. One example of this is the black oil slicks that spawn in the Deimos fight. If I am able to weapon swap to cancel the skill, I can simply dodge on impact, and avoid causing the entire raid squad to wipe.

If you’re talking about Death Blossom, Heartseeker, and Debilitating Arc, you’re incorrect. Those skills can be cancelled by swapping weapons.

Why would you ever want to do that?
The biggest issue I have is that you don’t even have a choice. Once you are in Vault you cannot do anything. You lose control of your character, and there is a 1/4 second window where you are completely vulnerable. 1/4 second isn’t a lot of time for other characters, but on a thief its the difference between life and death. (not to mention you know exactly when the thief is vulnerable due to a giant telegraph).
Coming from someone who played staff as a secondary, the inability to cancel vault by swapping took away of a lot of creative combos. You could use it to juke your opponent, bait dodges, trigger traps. Like others have said, we didn’t even necessarily use it for the damage. It had some great in-combat mobility that is now lost.
This update literally only helped the people that spammed it, and took away some utility from people who used staff as an intelligent secondary. Staff cannot compete with shortbow anymore as a secondary.
