[GoF] Smiks – Guardian/Necro
Thief/Mesmer Alts
Hey guys/girls, i have a question about venomous aura venom sharing.
If multiple people run this trait, and share the same venom in a densely packed group of people, will the venom sharing prioritize people who do not already have the venom? And if not, what is the priority? Proximity? Thanks!
Hi Dirty, first off I would like to suggest not using venomous aura. It really cripples the damage. Now to the question.
You should find all you need to know in this thread.

How does having a venom cripple the damage? Thank you for the response, i read through the forum post – this mainly discussed the change to 5 player caps on AoE abilities. I couldn’t find a reference on venom sharing preference and redundancies though. Anybody else have a clear answer on this?
The Critical Strikes trait tree gives us the most damage.
Examples of Grandmaster Traits
Executioner +20% damge vs tagets under 50% health
Hidden killer +100% crit chance when in stealth
It’s very difficult to invest 30 points into Critical Strikes with Venom Share builds.
I have not tested this, but it’s my understanding that
Person A used V-Share and shares Basalisk Venom
Person B is also using V-share in range and uses Basalisk Venom
The venom shared from Player A will be overwritten by the venom shared by player B.
If anyone has tested this please speak up I would like to confirmation on this. However V-share is so far at the bottom of my list of things to test. If it gets a buff at some point it may be worth considering, but currently I have no interest in it.
“An area of effect skill may only affect a maximum of 5 targets, determined by proximity… when affecting allies, closest party members are affected first, followed by closest non-party member allies.”

I hope this helps Let me know if you have any more questions.
the venom share build excels at cc. If you’re roaming with a small group, you can easily focus someone down with careful use of venom share. The constant immobilizes and stones and chills will keep them in place long enough to down.
Then again, necros do it better. Still it’s a fun change of pace. I tried it a bit, but got tired of not being a good duelist.
0/30/30/10 Build
Like to swap out shadow rejuv and venom sharing in wvw. Don’t ever pvp so don’t really care this build works exactly how i want it to, for small roaming and zerg fights. So – back to the question: Does anybody know if venom share prioritizes people without the venom being shared or if its purely based on proximity and useless overlap can occur?

From all of my experiences with my PvE character, it automatically targets those in closest proximity to you. Players, pets, and NPCs are all potential targets. If you’re surrounded by NPCs who are closer to you than actual player characters, then those NPCs will get the buffs.
I’m honestly not sure about overlap. Seeing anyone playing a VA spec is so rare that I’ve never been in the same place as another VA player. Assuming that it works similar to how other AoE buffs work, the AoE venom proc buffs will likely be shared on your nearst targets. Even if they’re currently under the effect of unused venom buffs, they’ll likely get a new set of venom buffs to overlap. This would cause the unused venom procs to be wasted and a new set of venom procs would replace them.
Most common venom share build i believe is 30/0/30/0/10, that allows you to get all the venom traits that can also be share also with allies, I sometimes go 20/0/30/0/20 for bountiful thief and having 15 initiative.
From my experience, some of the condition from the venoms themselves will stack with the exception of the immobilize and stone one as those don’t stack to begin with. but the trait leeching venom won’t stack, so if you want to maximize that, you need to spread out you venoms evenly.
Before a group of 3-4 venom share thieves could take out a buffed guild claimer in WvW through coordinating their venoms together, though that has been fixed for some time now sadly
