Video: S/D & D/P solo and skirmishing
Love that weapon setup.. Quick question, were u fully glass cannon, cos u were hitting over 6k on the 2nd strike of fs alone.. Meaning fs was hitting for like 9k which crazy
Can’t argue that the video is pretty good. But I think we already recognize each other from our encounters, at least I think I know who you are from the looks of that sword and guild tag. You/your party were pretty hilarious for yelling in all caps “YOU GOT ROLLED NOOB L2P” when you had two glass cannon thieves (both with basilisk venom/mug) and two mesmers bursting me at the same time. I roam solo and don’t expect to win every fight, but it kitten es me off when your group seems to think that was skilled. I’d have gladly done a duel, but you sissies left the party and threatened to “Put me on ignore list” as if that actually does anything..
Could I trouble you to link the gear and build you use? It seems you get a lot of burst on your S/D whereas the set feels slow and clunky when I run it.

I can assure you that this was not us.
My first video, for entertainment purposes only.
What to expect:
1. Minimal stealth;
2. No abuse of back-to-back C&D;
3. Fervent use of Infiltrator’s Strike;
4. Use of the underappreciated and often over-looked Flanking Strike;
5. Some trash talking.If you don’t like the flashy stuff, skip to 6:30 for a lengthy fight. The guild of the victim in the first sequence jumps us when we begin attacking a Dolyak nearby. There is no music, just the raw teamspeak at the time of the fight. When they jump us, we have three, plus a pug commander who happened to be attacking the yak at the same time. Props to [FURY] of Maguuma for an exciting fight.
Hm…Like the music but man you zerg people down much?
And after that people say that S/D requires more skill than D/D? JESUSMON! Nice video btw
Of course it does vs equal geared opponents !
You don’t have enough power to kill them , its nowhere near what you see in the video …
This is WvW and mostly people he kills get dmg for more than one person, are gc themself or lower level.
Try this setup / specc in tPvP and record a video there, you will notice a huge difference.
Full zerker with 0/30/10/0/30 I assume? Very impressive vid. I can see a lot of other thieves start playing this way after the path later today :x
Edited what I assumed was the trait setup

You really don’t see the Mug dmg ???
Nice vid, and great use of Flanking Strike. Bad thieves still gonna hate on it though.
Thanks for the feedback and compliments. I appreciate them.
My build is 10/30/0/0/30.
Traits are all personal preference with the exception of Lead Attacks (1% damage per initiative), Hastened Replenishment (4 initiative on heal), First Strikes (10% damage when initiative is above 6), and Executioner (20% damage below 50% health). The entire build is built around these four traits.
The build forces you into choices which is why I think it’s interesting to play. For example, when you use C&D, you may hit hard and gain stealth, but you’ve just nerfed your damage by 6%. If you do too many of them in a row, or spend too much initiative too quickly, you could easily nerf your damage by 25% and be initiative starved.
On the other hand, if you play smart and keep your initiative high, it’s very possible that you could increase your damage by 45% once your target hits 50% health. That’s where you’ll see the big numbers.
Runes are Divinity and Sigils are personal preference. I prefer Speed and Rage, with offhand Force and Bloodlust. Trinkets are mostly berserker, with a splash of valkyrie. Critical damage is of high importance when choosing gems and trinkets.
The rest is up to you!

Hey, great gameplay dude! Glad to see a mobile S/D thief, instead of another CnD spamming permastealth scrub. That is what I call a skill. Keep those videos coming!

Ya not us, we don’t invite people nor do we accept join requests…
Hmm. Could’ve been an entertaining video, but running around with Norn Buffs + Food Buffs killing people who have neither.. Meh, not impressed.
But i guess the build is kinda interesting and slightly different from the standard thief builds, still running Shadow Refugee though.
Edit:
Running away until you’re out of combat for full health? Hmm. Seems pretty lame to me.

Thought this was solo play all i’ve seen is mostly skirmishes with team-mates , you putting them down they comming for a stomp. This is what thief has been reduced too thanks anet.

That’s just our playstyle. In my opinion, a thief is best used when he’s dealing damage and not wasting precious time trying to stealth gank someone. A thief has some of the most single target damage in the game. If I wait 3 seconds to try and stomp someone, that’s 3 seconds that I’m not doing damage, and against most competent opponents, I’d also take cleave and/or AoE damage around the downed player that I’m trying to gank. Then, I would have to wait at least another 2 – 3 seconds to heal up and get back into the fight. In that amount of time I could have possibly downed another two more enemies reducing even more damage intake for my team significantly.
Take the 1v2 fight for example. If I had tried to gank the thief, the warrior would have gotten him up easily, especially since the thief could have just stealthed in downed state. Instead, I focused the warrior and got him down in time to then go back to the thief before he rallied.
another one of those vids… where did you guys find all these people with no break stun/immob?
I’ve tried this build in spvp , works pretty decently with a berserker amulet and a knight jewel, You get decent amount of health if you get practiced tolerance.
Good spike, able to solo most classes, really nice control, and you can survive if you really needed too for a little bit.
Though there were times where i really missed my shortbow T_T lol.
Problem is you would be much better off using D/D playing like that, as that weapon set does it way better than S/D.
Nice video, Oga not playing thief anymore eh?
Januarry – I play Ele sometimes because I hate my existence
[oPP] – Over Powered People
Heh, I recognize that guild. Reasonably entertaining video, though.

Well THERE’S your problem!
You attacked 4 burst dps players while solo roaming.
Sounds pretty much like a L2 kitten ue to me…
mind sharing mine.. pm me in game lets duel and bring it on!
Would like to see this build played in sPvP without the handicap food/norn buffs and the racial. Would also like to see how this performs without a full zerker setup.
Pretty nice video. Was unimpressed by most of the kills, though. It wasn’t really much of a fight most of the time.
Pretty high kitten-talk to video ratio. I guess people still die to thieves?
question, looking over your guide and your video i learned a lot but you left out one thing (unless i missed it) what armor are you using? valkyrie? berserker?

I use berserker weapons and armor. I’m not certain that valkyrie would work too well as your crit percentage would drop significantly. If you happen to use valkryie armor, let me know how it works for you. One major drawback to the build/setup is the low health. The only way to offset this is to always make sure you are moving in and out of fights with Infiltrator Strike/Return to minimize incoming damage.
