Perma dodge staff thief :P I can already feel the frustration behind the enemy screens.
Love the vids.

You’re a beast.
This one is truly insane. Definitely taking notes from you.
Do you feel like Esc-Abs happening as consequence lets you stay tethered to them longer to out perform Staff Master? Fun stressful video, thanks for posting it.
Yes, definitely. In outnumbered fights, staff master is still a good trait but as soon as consistent condi pressure makes presence in the fight, EA will outperform staff master especially since you are always evading things from the focus fire.

Woah, you are the very first one I admire for his playing skills in a WvW videos.

First of all: You are good! I wouldn’t say I could beat you (guess I couldn’t), but you did not fight any real good player in the two videos I ’ve quoted (i did not watch the others).
My recent outnumbered video:

Weak opponents. People were just spamming skills. It is funny that in another thread thief players were complaining about Staff/Bound thief being pretty vulnerable due to being locked in long animations and you are posting multiple videos were tons of people (including a ProLeague player) have no clue how to deal with that.
Duels vs a proleague Dragonhunter:

That ProLeague DHs mechanical skills were way worse than yours. He just spammed stuff at you like Emerald Dragonhunters do. The 1 or 2 times you went down it worked. Another example that ProLeague often does not stand for individual quality but a decent team.
^ also remember that he is using acro, so he has 60% swiftness time which helps with bound and vault (evade frames are still present though) 90% of this game style is pretty much rotae bound/deliberating arc/vualt, very effective wihch is why he beat that dh, and probably a hell of fun but it’s no longer risk vs reward anymore with builds such as this.
It is as you say, this build plays very much like an evasive brawler instead of the risk/reward big burst assassin type. That does not mean that it sticks to a strict rotation however, against great players you have to always evade/bait their cds before safely trading in melee distance otherwise you will almost always get out pressured. If you stick to a familiar rotation (can work against low skill tier players), better players will just read you like an open book and time their instants/skills into your vulnerability frames.
I would just like to point out that more thieves should welcome any fun/working build varieties that we currently have (aside from the trapper ghost thief gameplay). We are already limited in terms of having reliable weapons; sometimes the weapon set that we want to enjoy are viewed as gimmicky or just inferior. We shouldn’t advocate only one type of thief gameplay but rather be more open-minded about it.
I really enjoy your videos Tom, keep it up. And I agree that too many people focus purely on the assassin style for their thief. And then in turn call the thief UP, just because their playstyle might not be top dog..
Sorry I miss worded my sentence. I didn’t mean that’s all you did (rotate bound/vualt/#3) it was more of a figure of s peach. Ofc you can’t just do that and I notice you did use #3 quite well and wasn’t random. Was just saying that it was the play style of evading a lot. I play s/d a lot and I doubt I could pull of them sort of out numbered fights as I mainly rum dearly arts and lack the aoe.
this was awesome. thanks for the vids!

You can zerg herd on S/D with bound and Acro. You can get risky and keep PI and just learn to feel when it’s time to bug out or take EA and stagger your evade sources to ride the zerg. Just learn to keep a peripheral eye out for an opportunity to snipe someone with a good Stolen skill for the moment. Dodge, Inf Strike, and Flanking Strike targeted and untargeted can get you to or around a perimeter.
Staff #3 would be nice to have around though.
