Yeah with this expansion Arenanet clearly want to grow and maximise benefits with suspectfull marketting maners, making shows, going F2P. Old people that play for 3 years now doesn’t count anymore, they want MORE people and, obviously MORE and MORE money. It’s kinda sad to see how they are going to focus on profit these lasts months with the expansion. They becomming Blizzard.
Easier said than done. Many people here have been playing since the original Guild Wars. The game has been part of their life for so long, it going to be impossible to quit. Although I completely agree, the only way to show Arenanet how serious we are about this, is by taking the one thing they (seem to) care about: money. Not that I blame them, profit is the primary goal for companies after all. It’s unfortunate really.
You think our wallet has value?
Thief Wallet: Argentine Peso. ARS ($)
Other profession’s wallet currency: British Pound . GBP (£)
Now you understand.
Thief – Raiden Hayabusa
Thief – Gouki Kurokawa

Yeah the question is why are they trying to get rid off class specific playerbase….That is contra productive imo. Surely, some thieves will reroll but i believe a lot of players that still main this class at this point are die hard thieves and would probably quit game than reroll if the class ends up being bad (which is the tendency right now and it seems like it will happen in pvp AND pve – lol introduce dodge based elite spec while dodges will be useless in new content…. they get paid for this too xD).

Fallout 4 next month.
It won’t be that hard.
I took a short break after years of playing and came back to see the new HoT changes. I was shocked when they deleted my favorite build. I am not buying HoT unless there is some compelling change to the gameplay. Being a hardcore GW and GW2 player (over 10k hours combined), hard to walk away at this point.
Hopefully Camelot Unchained will be a better game or some other MMO will hit. At this point I would be happy with Destiny on the PC.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
I love this games engine, combat system, and structure. However, corporate greed, Devs without passion, and increasingly poor decision making have finally done it for me. Guild Wars was my first MMO and I’ve clung to this company for over 10 years. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on their products and literally YEARS of combined hours playing and verbally promoting their game to friends, family, etc.
I don’t know where their passion went, but it’s gone. It’ll be a while before I find another game to fill the void, but it will eventually happen.
Before the June 23rd patch I felt like GW2 wasn’t in an awful spot. Game balance wasn’t great by any means, but at least my favorite class, Thief, had multiple builds that were at least semi-viable. After that balance patch it felt like every class other than Thief was overbuffed, and Thief actually ended up losing viability in most of its builds. D/D used to be fun to play with a high skill cap, now it’s just garbage compared to D/P. Removal of the Ricochet trait not only made playing P/P less fulfilling for those who played it, but also sent the message from the devs to those players: “We don’t care about you.” Balance changes like the ones Thief has suffered through over the past few years are pretty awful, and they become even worse when you realize just how long it takes for the devs to release another meaningful balance pass. It takes what? 6 months for them to patch bugged skills, nerf blatantly overpowered skills and traits, and give buffs (if you can all them that in some cases) to underused/under performing skills. In the case of Thief, it seems like we rarely get adequate compensation during those balance passes either, so from my perspective, I basically sit around wait for 6 months hoping that just maybe this time is the time Thief isn’t passed over for long overdue meaningful changes again, but I’m always left disappointed and wanting.
I have not preordered HoT out of principle, being that I never preorder games anyway. I think it’s a silly practice that nobody should buy into, but hey, it’s your money do what you want. I was considering buying HoT at release though, because I have thousands of hours sunk into this game, and I did have fun for most of that time played. I’ve taken a few breaks here and there because it’s easy to get burned out doing the same stuff every day in this game, but I’ve always come back, usually because I miss playing my Thief. I play the other classes too, and have plenty of hours on them, but Thief is the only part of this game that can consistently drag me back. I know other players of other professions feel the same about their respective classes, but they haven’t been the consistent whipping boy of balance in this game for the past three years. Every other profession has had its ups and downs, buffs and nerfs, but Thief has almost exclusively been nerfed, the buffs being things that Thieves do not ask for, or simply return a skill or trait to its former value. Meanwhile, other classes experience extreme cases of power creep, especially some of the new elite specs, yet Thief just gets more of the same. I guess the overall lack of build diversity on thief nowadays grinds me gears a bit, and the appearance of our elite spec so far really doesn’t appear as though it will create a pathway to a large variety of new builds. Sure, we might discovered some fun builds using staff and the DD traits, but I don’t think those builds will be up to par with the builds of other classes, as we aren’t up to par with them now. The balance patch on this Tuesday is Anet’s last chance to convince me that HoT is worth the price tag. If Thief is left out to dry like it has been in every other balance patch, I will gladly keep my money. Which is a shame, because I really liked this game a lot and I really wanted to throw my money at it, but they have to earn it just like the rest of us.

To be honest I feel a bit of the same way. I have been playing MMOs since the Ultima days. I was here for GW1 beta and played clear through into GW2. My wife and I met in college and fell in love playing Nightfall and Eye of the North together. We play other games but everyone needs a fall back game. GW2 was our fall back game. Nothing like putting on a Barry White album, turning down the lights, lighting a candle then booting up the comp for some Abadon stomping.
Long story short we were both here for launch of GW2. . Lvled my thief to 80 only to find out in open world content it was great but Thief worked for crap in dungeons and PVP. Dropped Thief for Necro and played till Rift and Secret World got big. Played a little EOS till they sold out with F2P. In between all these I have always come back to play GW2. I have been a loyal fan. The last time around I went back to maining a Thief. I always main a assassin based rogue class. I thought Thieves were in a decent spot, than the last balance patch hit.
I continue to progress in my Thief as I have dropped so much time and money into her. I hopped that HoT would rekindle things for the Thief. However at this point even my wife agrees that Thieves are the worst off. She mains a Ranger and takes pity on us.
I would hate to drop this game but it is starting to get really old. The thief constantly gets lack of attention and direct or indirect nerf bats. Since we don’t have a Dev that mains a Thief I feel like they do not understand. If you main a class you want that class to be all it can be and more. I get this feeling from the other Devs as they speak so passionate about what they have done. Then we get the one guy who looks more confused than George Bush when he confuses Al Qaeda with Katrina. When the biggest part of the Dare Devil POI 31 was the chunk of time spent on showing us how well “Impact Strike” works on low HP non combatant NPCS, you knew something was amiss. I mean we didn’t even get the moose. Impact Strike was “NOT” moose tested and approved!…
Right now I feel like they are trying to sell off 1 additional dodge and a PVP power finisher that rarely works as our “upgrade”. Thanks a lot but no thanks. How does a PvP power finisher help me in PVE? How does one extra dodge help me in a raid if I cannot take the sustained dmg in the room. Anytime we have environmental effects that hurt the group Thieves have no defense. We can roll out of some red but being that we are mainly a melee class with only one weapon going to 1200 range and our 900 range weapon nerfed to hell…
Anyway this is off topic. In the end I hate to leave the game but the current MMO world only looks at profit. They make more profit right “now” off of the F2P community that is willing to drop money into a Gem Store for boosters, gold and vanity than the guy who has been here all along and have maxed out lvl 80 characters. There is little to no money to be made off of someone who already has played every end game. Business doesn’t care if it is your third year birthday, They only care about what you want to make micro transactions on for today.
I don’t mean to be rude, I swear, but we have a 1200 range weapon? Where!?!?!? >.> I’ve been searching. All I see is 900. Any chance a trait… pistols at 1050. Ok, where’s the next 150 >.>?
The next patch will be the last chance for me. If it fails I’ll ask for a refund
but they’re a lot stronger
than they will be next year!

Maybe he is talking about D/P Shadow Shot which gets its range increased by 300 from Ankle Shots instead of 150 for some reason, bringing it up to 1200 range lol.
WHAT?!?!?!!? kitten >.> But then again thats one skill. We need a weapon set with 1200 range. Another update to my list in my notebook of “you know you are outdated when”.
Currently:
You know you are outdated when:
You do less damage than a tank
You survive less time than a full glass cannon
You have less stealth than the secondary deception class
You have so little condi clear, you die to mobs in HoT expansion
And now, you have no 1200 range weapon unlike all other professions.

^ This.
The new blood will wash away the old…
I’ve already posted somewhere explaining this. The new players will more than likely repeat our cycle for the next 3 years to come… (You know being hopeful at first…)
Nonetheless, if you don’t agree with the decisions they’re making then you might want to consider not supporting them – via not purchasing anything. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, it’s business after all.

Tbh I was kind of expecting this might happen when the new trait system came out and was “bugged” in regards to the Trickster trait giving Flanking Strikes around 40% recharge reduction on haste (from 60sec to 36sec) as opposed to the 20% in the description (which should make it 48sec).
This still hasn’t been fixed last I checked. I mean……kitten me…..how hard can it be to either change the description or do some basic math?
Either 1 of three things has happened here, the description is wrong, Anet fail hard at basic math or lastly they just don’t care.
After getting the nerf stick many times in a row, this Tuesday will make it or break it for Heart of Thorns for me.
I’m bracing myself for the patch inevitably missing even the bug-fixes that should have been made months ago.
I’ll do it the other way. If/when they fix Daredevil I’ll buy 100 more dollars in gems.
Well just remember their metrics will show that x amount of thieves are no longer logging in or not even bothering to obtain their elite spec. So they can go from there to find the root cause of why and maybe fix it.
I am personally really happy with Revenant and how it turned out so that’s where Im going.
It wont stop me from being vocal if this next BWE daredevil is still trash, its not like i want to not want to play my thief anymore lol.

You know the lack of communication is bad when we’re discussing ways to get their attention to the current state of Thief like this.
I vote with my actions, not my wallet.
@OP: I think your viewpoint is a little narrow. Game designers make games because they like games, not because they want to drain your wallet. And, let’s not completely overlook the fact that the desire for money is not always a bad thing, and its somewhat universal. Everyone can always use a little extra cash.
I’m okay with the fact you stopped paying for GW2, and have since deleted it from your computer. I’m a little skeptical however, on coming back and appealing to thieves specifically over some bitterness about the state of the game you experienced months ago.
Enjoy dem feels.
