Ok so I play a Hammer/GS Warrior with:

26k HP
3.2k Attack
2.1k Toughness
3.3k Armor

I am not a glass cannon.

I run Bulls Charge, Balanced Stance, For Great Justice, Signet of Rage with Healing Signet. I also have 6/6 Dolyak for regen and regen based on Adrenaline level, passive healer setup heh.

I’m able to survive Theives for awhile now, HS spammers are probly the easiest. However KILLING one of you kittens, especially ones that don’t use HS seems to be getting harder and harder.

How often can you guys evade/go into evasion? I feel like 50% of my attacks are evaded or miss.

How often can most of you go into stealth? I know one of your heals goes stealth so thats what, ever 20/25 seconds? What is it where you guys disappear in a cloud of smoke at a certain health point?

Is there any way to shut you down during the elite spin move?

Just having a really hard time nailing you guys down and killing any of them. I don’t know where the misconception came from that you guys are so squishy, you’re not and the evades and stealthing make up for it quite nicely.

Have a heart and help a lumbering hammer wielding oaf out.

i will give you some suggestions
1) when thief go to stealth start spam your 1 attack, he will still get damage if he was near you
2) dont let the thief go to your back. his backstap do more than 6k crit if he was at your back but only 2k crit at front of you
3) if you see a thief with sword and pistol use your stun break and dodge away as soon as he reach you or bash you. then charge to him and easy kill.
4) remember when a thief use his pistol wipe ability he have no dodge after that.
5) make a thief and play with it at least 4 pvp. playing whit a class make you understand more about the mechanic and his wickedness

fellow warrior here: for the dagger twirly elite, I recommend just getting some distance. less effective the further you are, use the GS whirl/untargeted rush to put some distance between you two.

The 2h hammer control abilities should help if the thief is stealthing and trying to backstab, use the aoe control you have with that, and for the love of good keep moving. consider swapping out great justice for endure pain? pop it during one of their initiative dumps to stretch the fight out.

Learn to recognize the Haste icon. If you see it on them, it means they can’t dodge, and they’re planning to spam high-damage moves that cost initiative, which means they also can’t use any evading moves (outside of certain utility skills).

If you see a Thief flipping upside-down in mid-air? That’s Death Blossom. He evades during it, while applying Bleed stacks. Wait until he stops it to try hitting him.

The moment a Thief comes out of stealth? He can’t stealth again for about 3 seconds, assuming he even has the initiative/cooldown to do so.

we can evade A LOT. thats one of the main focuses of the class. It might legitimately be the case that 50% of your attacks are getting evaded. That is a feature by design of the Thief class. landing a hit on a Thief is non-trivial if the Thief is paying attention to evading you and using all his skills.

How often we can stealth is based very heavily on the weapon set choice and utility slot skill choices. I can play as a Dagger+Dagger Thief with 3 utlity skills that grant stealth and enter Stealth 4 times in a row before hitting the limits of my cooldowns and initiative pool. OR, I can play as a Sword+Pistol Thief with no stealth granting slot skills at all and simply never enter stealth. This varies heavily.

For reference, the Heal skill that stealths is Hide in Shadows. It grants 3 seconds of Stealth, heals a fairly large amount, clears Burn/Poison/Bleeding and grants 4 seconds of regeneration boon. It has a 30 second cooldown.

There is a trait called Last Refuge that alot of Thieves have (its only 5 points in Shadow Arts) that throws out Blinding Powder automatically at 25% health. It has a 90 second cooldown though.

There are a couple of ways to shut down Daggerstorm but none of them are easily available. We gain Stability and Projectile Reflection while spinning so its not really possible to interrupt it and stop it. You can definitely control it though. For example, we can outright die if a Mesmer puts confusion on us during a Dagger Storm. For a warrior I would recommend putting up a Shield Stance and trying to move away from the Thief. The blades are thrown out kinda randomly and its distance based. more blades hit closer in, so if you’re further away you’ll take very little damage compared to if you’re right next to us. Or you could just pop Ignore Pain for the 5 second invlunerability and charge right in and Burst us down. we’re not immune to melee attacks while spinning.

Oh, that one’s easy – put down your own projectile reflection. Wall of Reflection and Sanctuary especially would both work, but even Zealot’s Defense could do it.

Try keeping your distance and getting them damaged before they close into melee with you. If they have a sword main hand this will be harder as sword gives great mobility. If dagger main hand you will want to put your back to a corner or turn erradically while swinging your weapon. Dodge backwards.
Try to use your control abilities and then smash at the spot even if they go invisible they can’t move and will take damage. Dolyak rune set is worthless you should aim for something else. A thiefs worst enemy.is high.burst and control and conditions. Ironically our same strengths. I’m not beaten often but there was an engi, Mesmer, guardian, and warrior that managed to down me once. A good thief though has such high mobility though that he is hard to kilk

Welllll…

You as a Warrior have access to a huge range of weapons. Hammer is not the right one for Thieves. Rifle is pretty good at getting us to run away at least. Weapon switching to Greatsword and charging us the moment we turn is also how to do it.

Many Thieves are using both weapon sets all the time. I switch back and forth a lot. The 10 second cooldown is nothing. So I can hit at range while I’m moving in, and melee when I’m in, range when I’m back out.

How to kill us? Be aggressive. You cannot escape combat with a Thief unless you run into a keep or run near guards. So fight. Time your stun after the evades. If the Thief dodges, count – 2 dodges and he’s vulnerable for 10 seconds. Time stuns for after the Death Blossom attack.

For Dagger Storm, he can still be pulled or knocked down I think. Not sure what abilities you have, but you can interrupt it. Or just charge away for a moment as the range isn’t that large. Don’t just walk backwards. Or save your Shield for this attack – negating it. Learn the Thief elite skills by heart.

Save your own dodges is probably the key. When someone I attack dodges twice right away, I know he’s screwed. He can’t avoid any of my attacks for the next 20 seconds.

So much help… aggression is probably the most important lesson.

Use something with a shield to take care of elites/haste. Get the cleansing heal to make sure you don’t bleed to death.

If they’re dodging a lot then they specced into vitality and you’re more than likely going to lose; it counters non-burst melee specs HARD. If you’re specced that far into defensive traits/skills, you’re someone that can help your team by diving in and pissing off everything in range. You’re not going to win 1v1s against anything with mobility unless you have toughness/healing power + heal on shout.

I love fighting warriors. Steal and Profit. The only time warriors have a chance at killing me are when my big hits are negated by your dmg immune talents. Other than that you’re as squishy as anything else.

But Rifle… I’m afraid of rifle. (If i don’t have CD’s)

Warriors are pretty easy to beat for thieves, but there are a couple of things you can try. The biggest is to limit a thief’s mobility – it’s their bread and butter and essentially lets them tank. Use immobilize to great effect and dump your damage then. You might be able to kill the thief quickly, but it’s usually a war of attrition with them where you have to keep an eye out for the cooldowns, blow your defensive ones, and then trade with your offensive cooldowns.

You can break the channel on PW and cancel the attack, thus stopping the self root. PW only will prevent dodge if used with Haste as well.

Uhm… you don’t use pistol whip on a warrior if you don’t have haste up. It does subpar damage to high armor targets and you’re pretty much asking him to use hundred blades.

It really depends. We have 2 dodges (3 if we spend 15 points in acrobatics) + 1 healing skill + Roll for initiative
so we can dodge 5 times in a row i think.

How often can most of you go into stealth? I know one of your heals goes stealth so thats what, ever 20/25 seconds?

more or less every 3 seconds, using healing skill (30s CD), blind powder, weapon skills, combos, shadow refuge, shadow trap

5points in shadow arts. at 25% health casts blind+stealth

I don’t think so, we have stability boon during that

Obviously we cannot have all of those things togheter. We have to choose for stealth, or dodge, mobility or dps.
