While playing PvP, today I had a teammate order me to not play a thief before the game started, and instead “play a class that can do something”. Then i refused and continued to play, he claimed he had “reported me for botting” Lol what? Is this how bad things have gotten for our class? This is reminiscent of trying to do a dungeon back in the day.

Why would you want to troll your team like that though?

What did you expect to accomplish going in using Thief?

Listen to your team mate.

I hope all your team followed his example and reported you for such irrespect. I’m sure it’s written in the code of conduct that you signed.

Clearly he’s not aware of the amazing roles that thief provides which are not, but are, limited to:
1. +1’ing
2. Back-capping.

High mobility, good single target burst damage, easy access to stealth.
Well, we lack survivability with blocks, heals and mitigating buffs that other classes have a better access to.

In short: We die against anything we can’t burst down in 1v1 since we are not good at long fights.

I swear (cough) this one time, we were chased down by a group in WvW and I offered my team some cover with Shadow Refuge, they stepped outside said:

" How dare you, you filthy bandit. We already have a mesmer willing to give us Mass Invisibility. If you want to talk to us, you write to us by mail, you Thief. "

and the enemy zerg caught up to us, but they just wanted to kill me. so I died. (Cough)

Keep in mind the game isn’t just about you (or more specifically, the self in general) and if you queue as an objectively bad class you’re handicapping your team. Yes, team, with real people, who also want to win. I’d like to use thief too but it just isn’t viable. Even I say no rangers or thieves but people tend to have many classes anyway so why not queue on a mesmer, guardian, elementalist, or warrior instead?

I don’t mind nicely asking to switch classes, but after all everyone can play what they want. Especially in Unranked it doesn’t matter that much anyway, even though it could be considered wasted time or frustration.

idk, there are times I switched to Necro in middle of a ranked match for easy comeback win and globaled entire team in an instant when I wasn’t having fun anymore on Thief. So it’s one of Thief’s best strategies.

Working as intended. Thief supposed to provide miserable and frustrating experience so everyone buys HoT and switches to revenant.

Eh, it’s just the typical business model of the noisiest customers are the unhappy customers. The class is playable it’s just that the Thief community is upset because they feel ignored and unloved. The June 23rd patch changed a whole lot of things for everyone, and Thieves feel like they were ripped off. That, and there’s a lot of glorifying around the [Shiro] Revenant being as a sort of Thief replacement.

Back on topic though

From a player perspective, play the game how you want. If you’re PvP-ing for the fun of it then have fun. If it’s playing a thief that’s fun then I say go for it. If there are people on your team that are being negative about your class choice so be it; block them and move on. If those negative folks really want to be elitists and want to run with only the best of the best, well, there are Guilds for that kind of mentality.

Have fun it’s a game.

If someone told me to stop playing my main (a thief) I would tell them to go F themselves. Simple as that. I have no time for idiots.

Even mobility is kinda meh with mesmers spamming portal left right and centre.
