1. I provide blast finishers, stealth revives, infos (scouting) and, of course, kills.
2. Blast finishers. I can heal up to 10’000 hp with a ranger healing field, or 4000 with an elementalist one. I can provide might, swiftness, basically everything obtainable through blast finishers.

Basically what Frenk said, Shortbow is win in zerg. Spam cluster bombs and auto in between, with power and crit gear you’ll do nice damage and support with all the blast finishers. Bags will be all over the place

I usually equip shortbow, try not to be even remotely close to the front lines, while tagging enemies and placing max distance cluster bombs. Daggerstorm is situational, good when used with shadowstep. With the shortbow, every shot equals 3 enemies eating ~1-1.5k dmg each. Cluster bombs are good 3.5-4.5k dmg too. I get a lot of loot bags like this and I do feel useful, seeing numbers fly, but if I wanted to play like this, I would pick a staff ele or something, I much more enjoy roaming.

Ok listen :P there are so many things u can do other than just blast/scout. the BEST thing u can do is go p/d and sb run bleed build with venom share traits 30 0 30 10 0 if u need exacts u can msg me in game if im on or not afk Orro the sly. giving 5 people EACH 2 x basilisk venoms 4x Ice venom 3x devourer and 6x spider venom is just absuletely a knockout punch to 25-40% of their front forces. the sharing is totally random which is GOOD bc u dont want basilisk and devourer on the same target preferably. then u wanna use daggerstorm then shadowstep to the MIDDLE Of their zerg and just pumel them with the CC and anti heals and drop caltrops then port back. plenty of things…. use cluster bomb or s/d to port back if ur in trouble. the best thieves in the game dont share their builds bc the kitten whiners on these forums ruin everythign good we have. i wont even dare share my wvw build that makes p/d and p/d look infantile. anyway have fun

No builds are secret everybody has the same option to spec. Nobody is special and everybody can be equal.

In my case I run d/d and sb, I get lots of bags. Not being downed is the biggest trick. When you have that down any spec / load out will work.

In Zerg fights I focus on prime targets, casters out of position / people already low / commander icon. Avoiding damage and staying alive is what I keep as my priorities while looking for those targets.

I personally get far more bags with my power necro (and generally feel more usefull) but thief is far more safe and as said before, cluster heal is pretty strong, actually cluster in several fields is really strong.

i farm good with my thief
usualy fights go 20-60 ppls on each side
example -today – i joined guild raid at 10:30 PM … at 1.30 AM i had over 600 kills , 65 heavy lot bags, 4.5 gold from trash loot, and 1 rare only as loot.
I usualy run in same line with warriors /guardians when zergs colide, then i retreat and finish /aoe downed.

I run around trying to tag as many enemies as possible with clusterbomb and auto attack.

actually even if i dagger storm in the middle of the enemy zerg, there seems that other classes like necro/ele etc. receive even more bags !

I leave the zerg and go roaming.

I usually just short bow it up, signet of malice, and dagger storm in the middle of thier zerg.

I like spotting for the siege engines most of the time. Some other times I scout for the zerg and I never engage in a zerg v zerg, instead I watch of incomings and take out stragglers.

Grab a siege. Revive people. Try some short bow. Try some scorpion wire.

Honestly I feel way more useful in a zerg on my lvl 54 Engie or level 20 Mesmer.

Pretty much this. Always bring a shadowstep to get out of danger. If you aren’t gaining life from targets you’ll go down fast.

Bring venoms if you run a venomshare build, or shadow refuge and additional utilities otherwise.

Avoid signet of shadows. People should be passing around swiftness, and you have infiltrator’s arrow to keep up.

What is the best way to gear out a thief for WvW? I run with a zerg, and I’ll stay in it if it’s the right thing to do, but my ultimate goal isn’t to sit there spamming shortbow. I want to run in with the melee or pick people off.

But it’s difficult to get a handle on just what kind of gear to go for?

With the Karma vendors offering cavalier rings, trinkets, and back, it seems like that would be a good place to start. But where do you go from there?

I figure you’ll want 2.5k armor and 15-18k hp with 75%+ crit damage and 50%+ crit chance (with fury). But how do you obtain this? Is this the baseline to shoot for in WvW?

I don’t have much gold and the karma seems best used on the cavalier. I’ve got enough for one ascended amulet and will have the guild commendations this week for one ring in theory.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Alone facing zerg:
-if I got balls of steel => hit elite skill Snow Leopard Form, target any mofo in the back or middle, and as I press #5 Invis and #3 charge pull a quote from The Big Lebowski.

-if I don’t wanna lose my 25 perception stack => as above but away

When forced to zerg vs Zerg:
-drop SB#4, back and forth flows of zergs seem to wander in and out of aoe fields [crowd mentality and fear of red circles]
-control myself and stay as fluid as the flow of combat, maintening range with SB
-daze burst with shadow return to retreat
-blast combo
-reverse pull d/p #3 shadowshots

Sword/Dagger
-Infiltrator’s Strike
-Steal/Mug
-Auto Attack
-Recall back into your zerg.

Use the immobilize on Infiltrator’s Strike to help kill the other thieves or warriors that try to sneak into/bull rush your zerg. Or just hang back and plink some jerks with a short bow!
