What happened...???
Should I give you the low HP answer, the no condi removal answer, or the condi is broke answer??
the no condi removal answer,
Tricks can remove conditions, and you have two new tricks now (Withdraw & Dagger Storm)

Well, you have to be traited for that, but traiting into Trickery is never a bad option regardless.
I’m having no problem with my thief. More squishy? Yes, but It’ll all pan out. Just like it has since release. The forums are just full of hysteria and over-hype. You’ll see a marginal difference between posting QQ threads and positive threads, because let’s be honest… The forums are mostly where people go to complain in hopes that the devs will hear their (sometimes legitimate) problems – with a side of positivity.

True, but even if you took Shadowstep and 2 trick utilities, Withdraw, Shadow’s Embrace, Pain Response, and Dagger Storm… you’d still be unable to cleanse condis well enough in this meta. Our base hp is a joke, too, so we have less time to do it than other classes.
Then again, it’s all part of making people, especially thieves, glassier. There is no such thing as a sustain thief in PvP anymore, even a casual one, with all the damage/condi buffs. It’s enough cleanse to stay alive long enough to burst someone down, and that’s about it. Anet explicitly wanted to make people glassier and more reliant on active defense (rather than passive/stat-based defense).
Not really a bad thing, but I miss my tankier WvW roamer.

Withdraw removes Crippled, Chill & Immobilise as default, and a trait can remove an additional condition.

Aww cool thanks!! Ill have to start some testing later thanks for the info!!
where is that necro who was qqin about thief patch notes being OP. I bet he’s too busy enjoying his new passive trait, that lets you survive burst even while semi afk, to post in the forums. Anyhow mezmer is the new thief imo…
I can answer your question friend.
Most of the thieves were focused on the tricky playstyle of the profession. With this patch, the builds become so forcefully stable that, the beauty of the thief is gone. Now you have just 3 buttons to push, and poof. Either your opponent or you died.
Thief is the easiest profession to counter in the game. Almost every class has a different type of condition removal, and bigger hp. With the latest patch, shadows embrace is nerfed, acrobatics traitline is nerfed. Thief’s hp is nerfed.
Why the first day op-ness you ask? Because everyone was trying to learn her own traits and skills, while thief had nothing to choose more than 66006 idiotic rush zerker build because of the nerfs. So untill a clever player activated her defenses, thieves killed many people. And I want to say, it is really easy. It is the new pew pew ranger.
So why dead now? Because everyone made their condi builds or power builds. With trickery, a thief has 5 condi removals. It seems enough, but it is not. Cd is too long for you to use 3 of them, and one is scorpion wire, a funny but useless tool in most situations because of the kitten animation ( easily dodgeable). If you have serious conditions on you, which even before the patch my ranger could deal easily with his basic condi build, you have to sacrifice your utility skills. No utility skills = no survival. Also no way to gain the upper hand.
What do we have is the worst fate possible; one shot burst or die thief. A tasteless, graceless build that every monkey can play. Is it powerful? Sometimes yes. But easily counterable. Is it fun? I could only play for 2 hours. Then it felt like I was polluting my dear thief with that disgusting play style.
I am currently searching for a new profession with surprises, creativity, and gusto. I hope these problems will be over soon, or many thieves like me will be forced to find a new path in their adventure.

I adressed this a little in a different thread. Building around tricks is actually sort of fun, but the tricks themselves need to be buffed slightly.
Haste: Add 5 seconds of swiftness & 40 second CD
RFI: 3 Initiative, 30 second CD
Scorpion Wire: Shadowstep your opponents to you (the pull fails way too often)
In spite of having to give up bountiful theft for the trickster trait, I think that would go a long way towards making tricks an actual thing.
Nerfs + bugs on what got buffed (which means they don’t work).
That’s what happened.
Also there are people considering rerolling because ricochet is gone.
Has nothing to do with OPness or nerfness, they just removed a type of gameplay.

Which to be fair, did have it’s place in WvW zerg… ricochet was nice at pew pew-ing things
I don’t think the point they made about it being “random” is justified…
