What race fits the most?
Sylvari because they have curious hands.
The racial abilities are designed to be weaker than profession abilities in every way, shape, and form. They’re meant to be a fun little distraction and provide some variety in contrast to the normal skills given to each class. Don’t forget that racials are disabled during sPvP and tPvP, so if you’re looking for an advantage in either of those areas, you can pretty much give up on it.
Aside from any of that, not that there should be any other reason, none of the racial abilities mechanically benefit the class any more than any skill already included in the class specific selection, much less add to it visually. From a purely aesthetic perspective, I would say that Sylvari and Asura would lend themselves to the idea of being a Thief. However, lore wise, I would first and foremost personally recommend Charr, and to a lesser extent, Sylvari and Human.
Your choice, but I would definitely say that character race should have no influence aside from aesthetics or role-play.
I am asura from purely practical reasons. They are smallest by far and in many siituations
that helps(from pvp pow). Not that they have smaller hit box or smtng, but it really matters in cases when you cannot be targeted with tab, because you are amongst other allies and should be clicked with mouse. They don’t have the cool dodge blur thou.

asura for practicality.
but i think human fits thief best, urban environment and such.
and norn arent much into thieving, theyll most likely challenge u for what they want lol.
Personally think Sylvari/Thief.
I personally use a Sylvari, they even have a cycle dedicated to the Thief type archetype.
Plus, their physique’s are very slender which lends itself to the acrobatics of a Thief.
As said previously, Human also fits the Thief well, Div Reach being a Thieves paradise.
Who said, that thieves must be slim and small?
Anonymity — My talents lie in the art of stealth, infiltration, and escape. I do not draw attention to myself. To protect my identity, I hide my face behind a mask of darkness.
Subterfuge — A mask draws attention, and an uncovered face allows people to identify you. I prefer a more subtle subterfuge. A drawn hood lets me blend into the crowd, and no one knows I was there.Determination — I mean business. I’m the bruiser, the muscle, the bear you don’t want to poke. My headband keeps my vision clear, no matter how physical I get.
This one can perfectly describe a fat norn or charr.
I didn’t say they couldn’t be fat and beafy, but there is obviously an umbrella stereotype of the Thief/Rogue which entails flips and acrobatics
There is even a trait line called acrobatics lol. Plus the whole stealth aspect of the class isn’t suited to a fat clunky Norn.
@Romeo.4378 your right. However norn thieves roll and stealth has nothing to do with size. I have seen some pretty chunky magicians do their thing. Its all smoke and mirrors anyway.

I personally find Charr fit the thief role perfectly, with the Ash Legion as your legion of choice.
I play a charr thief, the armor fits them perfectly. The cultural gear looks even more awesome. (Tier 2 is the best imho)
Being a stealthy kitten, running on all fours, and the overall look a charr thief is awesome! (Have to be a small/skinny charr though, not a big bulky one. They look uglyyyyyyy)
Plus the whole stealth aspect of the class isn’t suited to a fat clunky Norn.
You know, that you can play thief without using a single stealth skill? Short bow, off hand pistol, and <withdraw> or <signet of malice> healing skills don’t have it built in. Stealth is awesome, but optional.
Thanks all for your answers!
Had a pretty nice suggestion with Asuras right here. Any other suggestions, specifically about with racial skills are nice for thieves?
Thanks!
Any other race suggestions?
Charr. Because Charrzooka.
Also, the Charr have the Ash Legion, perfectly suited for thieves.
“Quick and quiet.”
Oh thx, heard charr were good cuz of the shout. Someone told me that it fits a lot with the thief gameplay. But im still hesitating… charr are big as hell ! :S
I like my Norn, fan of the tattoos. I didn’t try and think what race “fit” a thief. I do enough profiling at work.

Charr are a great choice for thief and one I’m surprised I don’t see more often. It doesn’t hurt that the racials are pretty good. I definitely slot in the shout for group situations, especially since I already run some +might duration.
That said, I play a thief pretty directly, closing as quickly as possible and using primarily sword strikes and dodges with stealth to disorient and interrupt instead of to escape. A charr might not match a more “flighty” playstyle.
1. You can use a racial elite.
2. Doing so will make you weaker than normal elites
3. Therefore it doesn’t matter what race you pick.
Racial skills aren’t only elites, Nefarious, there are several worthwhile racial utility skills. Sylvari Seed turret, for instance, offers thieves the ability to get event credit while not present, something that non-Sylvari thieves simply can’t do.
Charr offers an extra trap-type skill, the fastest-cooldown trap in the game in fact, and great for thieves already investing in a trap/condition builds. Charr also get Battle Roar, which is unlike any thief utility skill and offers direct group buffs with a large range.
The intent is for race choice to not be unbalancing, but in actuality there are some skills with considering.

You may be right that these skills exist, but they are in no way, shape, or form comparable to the utilities provided to the thief class. Many of the thief unique abilities are too good to pass up, or are better forms of racials. Battle Roar may be the only racial that provides something that thieves don’t already have access to in one shape or another, but is it worth replacing a different utility skill with? There are already too many amazing and irreplaceable thief-only utilities to choose from, so why would you even consider taking racial utilities into account?

Have you ever actually used Shrapnel Mine as a trap thief? It stands up fairly well to standard thief traps, especially if you’re pushing traps already.
And Seed Turret still offers completely unique capabilities to a thief that simply are not available in any way from standard utility skills.
I’m having a hard time believing there are tons of thieves out there getting the most out of their amazing thief utility skills when I see so many builds with Signet of Shadows for simple convenience.
People might wish that race didn’t matter, but it does.
The question you gotta ask yourself is this:
When the Asuras inevitably take over the world, which side do you want to be on?
Asuras are the master race.

Norn; nothing says “I’m a Thief” like turning into a big kittening bear and tearing everybody apart.
Big is good but handsome is better so i’ve human a thief. In any race dagger and armor graphics is very bad. ? wonder how about legendry dagger?
Race doesn’t matter. I personally picked male human simply because I wanted my first character to be male and human. All of the races that I’ve played so far (Sylvari, Norn, Charr and Human) have ways to make thief fit into their race. I don’t really like what sylvari look like, and the norn and charr just look awkward when thieves.
Also, you can claim that the utilities given by race are good, but in comparison to the rest of the utilities, they’re simply not needed. Battle Roar has no synergy with anything the thief can do, so I don’t understand how giving us something we don’t have already is a good thing. The same with Seed Turret. Participating in events when you’re not there, really? That’s your reasoning as to why it’s good? The trap one is the only one I can understand, and even then, the thief traps are better. There is no reason to have both Caltrops and Shrapnel Mine. They do the same thing with different durations (Caltrops is better for Cripple, Shrapnel Mine is better for bleed), but one can actually be focused on through traits.
