What's with the vault spam?
Honestly, the frog show is really nice to watch but I almost feel bad for taking a dump on your face afterwards. I have yet to find a staff user who has not flip flopped on the spot hoping to land cheap kills. Please for the love of god stop embarrassing yourselves.
I think someone die to vault spam and they are mad. lolz
A lot of non-staff users love to call out vault spam. Even when they just do one in a row.
What’s even funnier is when you hit an 8k vault on someone’s face and they say “vault spam”

They can only spam it 3 times, may be 4 then they are out of iniative. Let them spam it. Killed many vualt spammed because they had no inatuve to do anything else

Keep calm and #spam_vault
It probably looks worse than it is because most thieves combine it with bounding dodger, and they more or less have the same animation. But the only thing painful about this build is that it’s cringe to watch. Just keep your distance, let the poor guy tire himself out, then kill.
I mean it has a damage coefficient better than backstab, costs less initiative, and has no stealth/revealed pre-requisite. It’s objectively the best DPS the thief currently has, and is also an AOE with movement and a short evade built-in.
There’s mathematically no reason not to spam it, especially since the rest of the staff is pretty horrible.

Yes, 3 and 4 are super situational. 2 would be good if it didn’t send you flying out of place on every cast. I got some decent mileage out of it while attacking an Octovine yesterday, but only because it literally blocked me from moving through it while spamming 2.
HS spam is worse.. and Vault deals so much dmg, but AA aswell and vulnability. Cannot decide between sword or staff though.. on paper sword AA deals more dmg, but on golems staff is better (vul stack).

It is not cuz of vulnstacks but mainly aftercast time. Sword/x just doesnt do enough dmg in this meta
6k+ PvP games
Sword tooltips says it is faster, but doesn’t seem so. Also in away sword three is better cause Staff three is multiple hits = risk of not crit on every hits.
Yeah the vault spammers are just like the heartseeker spammers… bad. Only time they get me is when I’m distracted by another player. Otherwise 1v1, they die pretty easily.
I really do not see what the issue is. There comes time in the game when it fine to vault spam. This when flipping camps or against an enemy not paying attention. If a person Vault spams against persons paying attention , chances are they end up dead.
If the vault spam works and it the OTHER guys dying then it not the person spamming vault that is stupid.
A simple guide to wasting one’s time with insults over constructive problem solving in GW2:
Step 1) Identify the abilities a class most frequently uses to succeed, such as Revenants using blocks, dodge rolls, Glint heal, and Unrelenting Assault to hold a point or quickness and auto attacks to take a point. These are “core mechanics”.
Step 2) Decide that insulting other players is far more important than becoming more skilled as a player by learning counters and informing other players of counters if they are too easy to defeat. To perform this ineffectiveness most effectively, forget that the abilities in question are core mechanics and call them “spam” for how frequently the class in question will generally use these abilities.
Step 3) Pat yourself on the back for having done little to help yourself or others grow as players and contributing to a more corrosive, less skillful, and less enjoyable gaming culture. You’ve earned it!

Well, it’s one of the only decent builds that can kill something.
Blame the devs, not us. They create and we use.

+1
The ability to easily hit for 8K is nice. Its something we’ve not seen in a long time.
We finally have something we can be mildly proud of and along comes the crying.
I love Vault spamming Thieves AND Deathblossom spamming Thieves. “Spam”. So easy to kill em during the act, let alone when they keep trying and failing then OOI themselves.
Distracting Daggers+Headshot ftw? “But pistols only use unload”…only if you suck at pistols =D?
Disclaimer: I only pvp Thief except when I need daily.
i play d/p and staff and basically i use d/p for 1v1 or 1v2 fights, and staff for fights on points or group fights.. in which case using vault a couple times works pretty well. i also use #4 skill alot in group fights cause it actually has a pretty good range and damage mitigation.
vault can be useful to traverse the map occasionally also, like to get away if health is low
however people that just spam that one skill won’t get very far.. and will run out of initiative very fast as some people above said
Isn’t people spamming any same skill kind of predictable…? doesn’t feel like it’s a Vault thing when it’s such a nice weapon overall otherwise.
I actually tried this earlier… It’s crap. because we have to ground target them all and our opponent is constantly moving, most of our vaults miss, and most of our damage dodges miss too. I hate to admit this, but for the first time in a long time I just quit the game without finishing the match because I was kittened.
The condi daredevil with D/D is just better overall, and is more fun to play. It has more evades, more consistent damage, and doesn’t necessarily have to be in melee to deal damage thanks to the dodge, and the lingering condis.
if they spam vualy, i spam #3 (staff)

Some people who call out thief ‘spam’ forget that initiative is actually designed to do multiple attack chains. It was right there in the blog notes before Guild Wars 2 was itself was even launched.
“I can do 18,000 damage if I chain three of [This Skill] and down this guy? Nah, I’ll just mash 1 three times instead and let him kill me to save the embarrassment”

Let’s all be honest here.. If other classes didn’t have cooldown on their skills i.e. warrior eviscerate or 100b they’d be spamming it too since those are hella strong in terms of damage… keep spamming boys and gals

Exactly. If Rangers had initiative you’d be getting hit with triple RF constantly.

I agree. I prefer Condi Daredevil using D/D. Constant evades and with perma bleed/poison.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
For melee staff it is the only skill that does ANY damage. 1 is like a friendly poke, 2 is that special kid running into walls (seriously… wth anet). 3 is just meh. 4 supposedly blinds people, have yet to see it actually work outside of PvE. 5. OMG it actually hits things, sometimes, when aimed right, if set up as full glass.
What is the best pvp move on staff?
Evade + extreme aoe dmg is king ~
blind < evade
vault = situational (and in most cases the evade + dmg on the spot is still better)
foolish to rely on weakness when you are not really landing many conditions, and each little hit is only 2 seconds anyway.
so yeah… 5 it is
