Zagozda – LVL 80 Warrior
Trynity Killer – LVL 80 Ranger
Hey just curious. I see all these youtube vids with high crit numbers.
I normally ever see higher then 5k on a bs from stealth.
Attached is my gear and stats.
Link to my traits here but its 0/30/30/10

Bear in mind that those pr0 skillz videos are usually against uplevelled people that have pitiful defences. Your hits sound more realistic.
I crit for 3-5K depending on the target I have crit for 7K but only on uplevel players.
What should you crit for? Well that depends on you and what you are comfortable with I for example am not comfortable without running some toughness in my armor which lowers my Crit damage but it is my comfort zone.
Find your comfort zone with a balance between Crit damage and whatever else you want your build to do and you will be just fine you don’t need to crit for 7K or whatever like people put on youtube and video’s to win a fight, just fight smart.
Talking about WvW – with 10/30/30 build and 119 crit dmg, most backstab dmg I’ve dealt vs 80 lvl characters, while I was trying main hand dagger was 7.5k. Funny story though, several days ago I tried the d/p 0/20/30/20/0 build, because it seemed interesting (not my style after I tried it though, I prefer s/d). I was just continuously stealthing, when a 80 guard passed by, without aegis so I decided to poke him. Same equips, 109 crit dmg and 16 might stacks. Boom 12.5k, and according to his health bar he barely had 1k left. I was so shocked by this number, that I left him run and started checking if I saw correctly. Yep, I had. I still have no idea why this happened, 16 might stacks shouldn’t result in double dmg…
i have lower p attack /critical power then you and i often crit for 7-8 k
My lethal blows usualy come when enemy is arround 40-50% hp i stack x10 might from shadow refuge and i refill initiative -then the backstab makes them cry
And to detail it : unde 50% hp /over 6 initiative / 10 stacks of might = 20% +10% + arround 12% – is an 42 % damage diference.
Anyway , why you stack so much hp … is way too much

Sounds like I need to drop HK for the below 50% one.
I’m actually really impressed how much damage output you have given your vitality. I personally would be quite ok with what you have now, esp if you start running S/D instead of D/D. (Even running d/d I’d be very ok with what you have now, but then again I’m a defensive player, you may not be).
Since you want to run d/d burst though perhaps you could drop the HP a bit and reinvest that more into crit damage
i belive that HP is from siegerazer , not sure too
Commander NPC add 500 vitality:)
I crit 6k-10k on level 80 target, natural damage, no might stacking, no signet. 6k tanky – 10k on glass cannon.
Reason you arent doing that damage is your trait build, you focus more on survival than pure damage, for me thief survival as backstabber is pure damage, kill the enemy fast enough for him to not kill you.
Notice the difference in our stats.
Here is my build, classic backstab. This build will increase your damage with 20% + more.

Problem is there is no trait points in power.
Crit damage basically multiples your power, but if you have low power in the first place, it will not be as high.
For example 2(this is your power) times 5(this is your crit damage) = 10
Versus 4(this is your power) times 4(this is your crit damage) = 16
I do believe that is how it works, although my example is just an example and is probably not the formula used, but more power = more damage overall.
Also, this may sound stupid, but are you sure you are backstabbing them from behind? Many thieves i see backstab me in front when backstabbing from behind should do an extra 100% damage.
Also run ruby orbs on your jewels. It results in more damage.
Reason you arent doing that damage is your trait build
Mind posting your traits?
Oh I see above. Thanks
Also run ruby orbs on your jewels. It results in more damage.
Really even over divinity? I thought +10 to all the other stats was worth it.

How many of those other stats do you use?
Do you apply many conditions? Do you use any heals that get a decent healing power return?
Sure the extra vit and toughness with the prec and power are nice but if your looking for big hits rather than survivability (which is seems you are) then your getting a lot less bang for your buck.
Rubys give you twice as much power and 40% more precision compared to divinity, meaning bigger regular hits, bigger crits and more crits (the fact your running with a base 37% crit rate it seems means your really relying on hidden killer at the moment)
Ok I redid my traits
Gonna be weird for a bit not having so much survivability. Havent switched to ruby orbs… Just invested so much in those divinity lol
Those 250 points of power make all that difference?
I am speccing my thief on backstab after a long time using conditions, but I only hit for about 5k damage. I have 98% of critical damage, all my gear have power and critical damage, but I have no points in Deadly Arts tree.
Well I havent noticed hitting any harder but I die so fast… You must have to really pick and choose your targets to make that spec work.

I see what your saying… but where do I get higher crit rate from? The ruby orbs are just damage crit multiplier? You get maybe 5% more crit rate?

Those 25 points in the deadly arts tree gives this:
Damage on steal for extra burst, usually steal does 4k damage.
5% extra dagger damage, you are using daggers.
10% extra damage when your target has a condition on it.
And 250power.
= All these bonuses gives a significant boost to your damage.

Yeah, those ruby orbs are alot cheaper and better. They give more precision and more power.
Seeing from your screenshot your crit chance is 35%.. thats really low.
You need full berserker gear, full berserker weapons, full berserker jewelry. This will give you 55% crit with the backstab build + more crit from trait that doesnt show on your character stat list.
The force sigil on weapon for 5% more damage and the sigil of air/fire in offhand for an extra 1.2k lightning bolt/fireblast every 5sec when you crit.
And, listen, you will be squishy. But you will kill people. Also, to do well, you need become comfortable with your thief and work on your skill as thief.
steal+cloak and dagger into a backstab into heartseek, most people are either dead or very close to dying. That is your defense.. if you cant kill the person, you have to run.
I have to run from most classes that are using tanky gear and trait builds, but i think its worth it against all other who isnt tanky :P
(edited by Rissou.7213)
to complement on Rissou:
-add prebuffed 25 bloodlust stacks 250power (separate weap set)
-add 200power for 30s on kill + 10% cdmg food
Well, against level 80 players, with toughness I crit about 5-6k with BS unbuffed. The crits you see in videos are against upleveled players, and here’s an example of one
i will show you the diference betwen selfbuffed and unbuffed thief OP
I got an tanky settup so numbers don’t go verry high.. an glas cannon can have 300 more base p attack -10 more critical power -20 more critical rate
i also miss 25 stacks of accuracy /bloodlust and furry buff (i can take it from critical strikes when target reach 50% hp
Unbuffed : 2850 P attack – 99 critical power -38 critical rate
Buffed : 3560 p attack -109 critical power -50 critical rate
(25*bloodlust +furry selfbuff) could go to 3800 p attack -109 CP -70% critical rate ( you got those stats for 5 seconds but is enough to kill anybody in few hits
