Lorella Windrunner – 80 Thief
Shayera Nightfall – 80 Mesmer
I’m about to hit 80 on my Thief and I’m going D/D. I’m just wondering what stats I shoot should for with gear?
Power;
Critical Damage / Critical Chance;
Vitality/Toughness;
Other Stats;
thanks.
berserker for full glass canon, you can use knights/valkyrie to increase survivability. it depends on how you want to play it. for full GC you go full berserkers, or if you want to be tankier knights armor and weapons with valkyrie jewelry works great. there is a full Valkyrie build that takes advantage of guaranteed crits from stealth via traits to back stab crit whenever revealed falls off. just a few ideas of what you can do depending on how glass/tanky you want to play the weapon set.
I assume you’re wanting to use it in WvW? Power-based glass D/D doesn’t have much of a role outside of jumping onto people in WvW and assassinating them, which it admittedly does very well.
If you’re more interested in a well-rounded build that does well in all aspects of the game then go for a Power/Toughness/Vitality main set. Accessories are always easy to switch out and can be adapted.

I am curious how a power based set up works with D/D. I am always confused as to how power and crit work in this game and how you determine which is better. Wouldn’t crit be burstier?

It also works to dagger storm zergs.

Healing power doesn’t really give good returns if you’re just using SoM. Only time I’d go heavy healing power as a thief is an actual support build concentrating on sharing venom leech, Shadow Refuge, etc.

Based on what theorycrafters have stated Power increases the base damage of all your attacks. And it does this much more efficiently compared to any other Precision or Critical Damage.
You see, Critical Strikes are 150% (+X) of your base damage. By increasing your base damage you are also increasing your Critical Strike damage.
That applies to almost everything except Condition Damage which isn’t affected by Power (only the actual attack damage is).
Here’s a spreadsheet to toy around with if you feel the need to balance DPS and survivability stats.
