Whats a good PvE soloing thief build?
I’ll leave specific build recommendations to others, but as far as gimmicks go:
Black Powder (Pistol 5) can let you essentially ignore all melee attacks from most opponents. As well, if you’re using a dagger in your main hand you can still drop into stealth by comboing it with Heartseeker. (Dredge are a notable exception and that is part of why I hate them) Other gimmicks I’ve seen around include the Caltrops trait and Signet of Malice, or combining Shadow Refuge with Dagger Storm to get leeching bolts and try to reverse a fight when you’re surrounded.
Shortbow is the easiest to tag a lot of mobs, hands down. You have two AoE attacks and your basic attack bounces. Dancing Dagger (Dagger 4) is kind of close because it bounces as well, but the initiative drain is pretty heavy if you spam it.
Mixing insults with your post is like pooping in a salad.

I love P/D condition build and wear carrion gear. You can pretty much solo champion mobs with clever use of stealth reset timer. I killed the champ alone in the NW cave of the level 70-80 snow area by stealthing and stacking bleeds and dropping caltrops between him and where he resets to.
Now ofc that does not work very well in events. Luckilly, you can always fall to shortbow for that. Drop cluster bombs n stuff!
Or sometimes I just use a dagger in the mainhand and no offhand. Twisting fang looks really nice.
S/P Pistol Whip is decent damage and you get evasion while it runs and it hits multiple targets.
D/P Blinding Powder>Heartseaker>Backstab is a fun combo, blind works to mitigate damage well. Works best with Hidden Killer and Infusion of Shadow traits.
Stealth is a great panic button…
Those are possibly the better options to keep incoming damage low and leveling through content.
Some of my favorite traits;
Critical Strikes 30 – Hidden Killer for any stealth/backstab build
Trickery 15 – Preparedness for 3 extra Initiative pool
Acrobatics 15 – Feline Grace
Trickery 10 – Caltrops
Shadow Arts 10 – Shadow’s Embrace, Infusion of Shadows (BS builds), and Cloaked in Shadow are all nice.

The idea behind this build is to have survivability though evasion, and damage though bleeds with Death Blossom being your primary source of damage. I never had any issues killing mobs or soloing skill points.

For some reason, the forums don’t handle links to gw2skills very well, but if you copy/paste it, it should work fine. If that still doesn’t work for some reason, it’s 0/20/0/20/30 using the major traits II, VIII, II, IX, V, VIII, and IX respectively. I’m not really too sure if IX in Trickery is really worth it though, so I might be changing that up.
