I was very disappointed with the Thief patch notes this March 26th. I’ve always preferred to play my Thief as 100% build, and I was hoping to see some improvements to make that more viable.
In the GW2Guru, the devs talked about improving P/P and adding more mobility to the profession. They suggested that Shortbow shouldn’t be required by all Thief builds. Now while they didn’t go through with the change to the revealed debuff always being applied when exiting stealth, I was till hoping to see improvements that would make builds not revolving around stealth more viable.
So, many good posts on these forums already about what is wrong with P/P and the devs could do to address the issues. Here’s some of my concerns:
- Lack of 1200 range weapon set. I would love to see a trait that adds extended range to either Pistols or Shortbows. If the devs have ruled out this option and want the Thief to only be able to operate in melee and skirmishes, then please just come out and say it!
- P/P Unload spam. The other skills don’t offer much reason to be used over this, especially in PvE. There are no combinations (like D/P Black Powder + Heart Seeker or SB Choking Gas + Cluster Bomb). Other weapon skills either don’t do enough damage to justify the initiative, or the effects/conditions don’t make them a better option than just trying to kill your target faster by spamming Unload.
- P/P no defensive or escape mechanism. This is what I thought the devs where going to address. Black Powder is great for melee builds, but not such much for range. So, I don’t see it as a good defensive mechanism, especially in PvP. There’s nothing here for mobility, there’s no way to enter stealth.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. Fellow P/P Thieves please add your own thoughts and concerns!
Thanks!

In PvE your supposed to bring a verity of weapons for multiple situations.
the 30/30/10/0/0 trait set is the top DPS for all direct damage weapon sets, sword, p/p, d/d, shortbow. (yes it even does more damage then a full initiative regain on weapon swap p/p build)
P/P is only supposed to be used against single targets where you have to keep your distance.
