Why waste damage? When you can crit all day!
You can go all out with continuous attack barrage with this. You won’t even need fury because Keen Observer will bring it to 100% and all the passive healing will keep you above 90% health.
I mean, why not?

I’m still very new to thief (lvl33), but both of these builds look awesome.

This is what i would go with for casual pve.
Sword main for AoE, dagger main for single targets. Note that signet of Malice heals 100 per attack per ennemy hit, so if you pistol whip (9 hits) on say 3 targets that’s 2,7k hp total + you get more from critical hits and initiative used.
Use assassins gear and Runes of the Pack. You do not need Fury at all. Take the points out of trickery and put in Acro and you have the same health and can get close to perma swiftness.

The OP uses this for PVP??

actually it heals for 132 (133? not sure), anet doesnt know how to edit tooltips when they change skills. The skill received a 33% healing buff AGES ago
so pistol whip could heal for 3.6k
How much are you actually hitting with these crits? Like a backstab does how much?

Wondering the same thing as well as survivability.

Theoretically it would be the same damage as Power build without crit. Only that with high crits you have higher chances to proc “on crit” effect.
So the question is: Would the “on crit” effects be good enough to sacrifice Power or Survivability, knowing that these effect have cooldowns?
I personally think that 100% crit chance is a waste and 30% from gears (armor, food, weapons…) + 20% from Fury is enough.
One exemption, I personally find 100% crit chance useful in a large group fights due to the generous amount of support buffs. You get more bang for your bucks in this scenario with 100% crit chance.

I was curious as to the effect of maxxing crits to 100 percent and then using a combination of Ghost Pepper Popper and Sigil of Strength.
Sigil of strength has a 1 second cooldown and I do not think ghost pepper popper has one at all. There a new food from dry top I have not tested yet that allows a 33 percent chance of might on crit along with 100 ferocity that I find intriguing.
With 30 percent boon duration and using a dagger storm I had my might up to 25 stacks. It does not last long but using unload I could get it to 15+ rather easily using p/p while traiting for Roll for inertia.
So there no power sacrifice whatsoever in such a setup. Base started at 2300 with 2400 armor and 20+k health once stacks figured in from wvw. Taking a minimum of even 12 stacks might and you are over 2700 power.
100 percent crit with each hit doing 200 percent damage is quite deadly.
Now as to survival. I am still working on what setup is best but you can go 2/6/0/6/0 and focus on the vitality . This gets you might on dodge and the assassins reward. Sigil of malice, one off hand sigil of blood with the other sigil of strength AND invigorating precision and there a lot of healing going on.
Ghost pepper popper is something I overlooked. At night it might be more powerful then that might stack as you can pretty well keep up constant chill with a high crit rate. That or you use the omnomberry ghost for another 375 heal on crit and lifesteal with a 1 second cooldown.
So to answer your (rhetorical) question, the sigils/foods that work best with a 100 percent crit rate, are the ones with the lowest or absent cooldowns. This coupled with rapid or AOE type attacks where you use those seconds to maximize benefit to yourself or pain to the enemy.
if you are relying on backstabs or slower attack styles you are probably better off with a lower crit rate, more survival and outright power and the proc on sigils like lightning/fire.

Relying on buffs to increase your damage has a very bad consequences in WvW.
You can surely try it out, for the sake of curiosity, but you’ll soon understand what I meant when a Necro dropped a well on you — and there’s a lot of Well Necros out there — my Necro is one of them.

Yes, that is the dream…and reality sucks because of this one aspect of the game — “survival”.

If you’re going to go this route, two things you need to watch out for: blind and confusion.

Possibly. The only reason I don’t like it is the time of day requirement.
So to answer your (rhetorical) question, the sigils/foods that work best with a 100 percent crit rate, are the ones with the lowest or absent cooldowns.
Correct.
This coupled with rapid or AOE type attacks where you use those seconds to maximize benefit to yourself or pain to the enemy.
Not quite. As I mentioned above, your weakness would be blind and confusion if you go to this route. Basically I’m saying, you will need a plan B in case this fails.
if you are relying on backstabs or slower attack styles you are probably better off with a lower crit rate, more survival and outright power and the proc on sigils like lightning/fire.
Basically, is the damage you’re losing from Power can be gained from other means? You have mentioned several ways of doing so and if that completes your build, then let the fun begins.
