Withdraw forward: 2 or 3 buttons?
Withdraw and roll for ini should both work like regular dodge rolls. But that might give anet some extra work, so it’ll never happen because uncaring and understaffed together takes a dump on QOL design changes.

I really don’t think the extra work is their motivation. Anyway, saying it should work differently doesn’t really help. I’d rather just make the most out of what we have.
I have a mouse with three buttons. Left right and then one down the right side. The one on the right side is mapped to dodge.
The mouse has a scroll wheel that can also be pressed. The pressing of the mouse is set to do an about face.
To withdraw forward I merely press the scroll wheel then that mouse button down the side. It real quick and can be done with the one hand.
i always have free camera on, its a nice feature and tbh i think it should always be on anyways, the way i do it is by holding right mouse and flipping my camera myself, that way i can actually aim myself in any direction i want to go

@babazhook:
You hit about face and dodge, which makes you withdraw (heal) forward?? Or do you mean that right mouse button is your heal, so you combine about face with withdraw? Like I wrote before, for me that will turn the camera 180 degrees. Is it like that for you?
@Scribbles:
I must admit that I do not understand the difference between having free camera on or off, or something just isn’t working correctly. I have tried withdrawing forward various ways with free camera on and off, but both end up working exactly the same way. I don’t notice any other differences either.
Your way of aiming the camera can definitely be useful, and I can see how it is worth getting used to. Still, it would be nice if i could withdraw forward without changing the camera and without overstretching my fingers.
I have free camera enabled just for this. I always have my right mouse button held down for steering, so free camera on or off doesn’t affect me other than when I want to roll forward with withdraw or roll for initiative. When I want to, I continue moving forward in the direction I want to roll, let go of the right mouse button, click the left mouse button, hit the tab key which is my ’about face’, then hit the skill. It doesn’t require any special or numerous bindings, just binding ’about face’ to a nearby key. Then it’s just a matter of practicing it to get quick at it.

I decided to immediately try it and want to say thanks, that actually worked! Somehow the three-button method is impossible for me to screw up and this simpler version isn’t, but I suppose it just takes getting used to.
The thing I did is got used to a slightly high mouse sensitivity and just kept my screen locked. I didn’t wana add more to my multi tasking especially playing a profession which has many risks with pressing the wrong button. If I plan to withdraw forward, I just wip the camera around and use it with my mouse button (G700 Logitech gaming mouse) and presto, takes no more than a split second. When immobilized though, I kinda wish there was some sort of method to aiming where you roll, would require the ability to turn when immobilized though which I don’t see happening anytime soon.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
I’ve found that the about-face key is too unreliable. I just move 180 with a quick mouse movement.

No. I was unclear. My heal is another button. The process is still the same. It all happens on the mouse. I have another button on the mouse for the heal so The keyboard not needed at all.
So when I wand to ROLL forward/dodge forward press the mouse button on right hand side for the evade ( equivalent of V on keyboard) after pressing the center mouse scroll button. If I want to heal using withdraw the same thing. About face with that mouse scroll button then hit a key on my gaming mouse for the heal skill.
The gaming mouse I is a G600. Now it has a multitude of keys that can be programmed.
It still all done with one hand.
