Hello fellow thieves

I’ve recently gotten my D/P thief in full ascended armor (Valk) for preparation for really getting into WvW. However, I am rather inept at figuring out the proper gear for him. Was hoping to get some advice about which Runes and Infusions would be the best.

Essentially, I am trying to figure out if Runes of Strength, Runes of the Traveler, Or Runes of the pack would work best. Normally, I see people going for the Strength runes, since people always seem to prefer the flat out damage and damage seems best for PvE. However, I was wondering if the Traveler/Pack runes would not be a better choice due to the extra utility from an extended swiftness. I’d very much appreciate any advice from the more experienced players. Feel free to tell me if there is an even better Rune that I had not considered.

Also, which of the defensive infusions should I acquire?

I have Zero interest in any PvE content on this character, so I am only interested in gear that would provide the maximum WvW effectiveness. I have the gold for any of the Rune sets, so cost is not an issue. Thanks!

I believe that strength runes are better for S/D, since they get the minor trait that gives might on dodge.

For my D/P WvW thief, I use rune of the pack. Allows me to get a lot of swiftness for running about, and I don’t have to deal with the lackluster stat gain of traveler’s.

I’ll be playing D/P or D/D mostly, as I prefer the stealth burst aspect of the weapon sets. So the swiftness is indeed better than the extra damage? What about infusions?

It really depends on what your traits and play style are are and to which offhand you decide to commit to.

i have ascended valk and wish i hadn’t put my traveller’s runes in them because after the ferocity nerf my backstabs don’t hit very hard and now i’m going to have to overwrite them (probably with pack runes).

maybe try pack runes since they’re cheapest of the 3 and if you don’t like them then replacing them won’t be such a big deal.

Can i just ask where u guys get your swiftness from, making it worth to go with pack instead of travelers or ogre? Im running the DP trickery build and therefore I dont access to the gain swiftness upon dodge trait.

I use Signet of Shadows for general purpose mobility and rely on Thrill of the Crime after engaging.

I was actually just going to post something similar. I’ve been playing around with different d/p stuff lately as I have mostly been a d/d and s/d thief but got bored with it. I recently lucked out with my precursor so I’ve just been grinding away dungeons and world bosses and been playing around with this build http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fZAQJAoalsMp0plPx7J0PRBNBt9DGeI8KMaFgOPSRA-TxBFABCcCAQS53hq7Uy+DA8AAKUlgrUCCA-e trying to utilize those strength runes I bought for my s/d setup. I know most people say something like 6/6/0/0/2 for PvE but I’m mostly in LFG and I hate being so squishy which just makes things longer. I stack up those mights pretty quick using this have lots of evades + thrill of the crime.

But anyway back to WvW. Obviously a build like that would not work as you pretty much need 6 in SA. I was just using the basic 0/6/6/2/0 with traveler’s. I was thinking of trying out 0/4/6/2/2 with strength to get a thrill of the crime stealth backstab opener and swift + might on dodging but I dunno 0/6/6/0/4 might be better. Curious what you guys run on your d/p builds?
