hey guys! I made a good build for commanding as a thief. i tested it out and it works fine. i got some requests to make a thief commander build this is what i made of it:

1.0 Why choose a thief commander?
Lots of guys think the thief is squishy and dies within seconds in zerging. This is not true. Ive proven it with this build. The thief has the best escape abillity off all classes in gw2. it has a good elite skill and has a high mobility. And ton of supportive abillities if build right. This is why i choose a condi d/d /shortbow build. because of the good aoe damage and the line up with the traits.

1.1 tactics
When your commanding lets say 30 vs 30. You will stack up might etc etc first. you can do this standard way like your used to. to get your own might up use shadow refuge. With the buff of 50% less damage you can litterly charge in with the zerg and steal over the guardian knockdown walls. Target a warrior or guardian so you have a big chance to steal the stability boon. the rest of the zerg will just charge in because they will still see your tag even when in stealth. when your zerg arived for the clash you activate daggerstorm. Because of your dire gear you will not die this quick and your conditions will deal good damage. when the storm end use your cluster shot to just cause conditions all around you when rushing trough with your zerg. Double tap to cause more conditions and single tap to cause blast finishers when they are needed. The dagger combi is pure for death blossom in smaller fights and for cloak and dagger stealth.

2. When losing the fight

Dont worry, use your 2 stun breakers to get away easy and stealth with blinding powder to retreat. your zerg will tag allong when they have the chance.

3. Why use condition damage instead of power?

Simple, because condi damage stack up way harder then power does in compare. Direct damage is better with lots of classes but since a thief lacks a good aoe damage abillity cluster arrow will do way better with all the aoe conditions you can add. Heartseeker and sword abillity’s work aswell but you have to freeze in the middle of the zerg to use them basicly. When you hearthseek you go to fast your your zerg to follow up. Plus most time you target something and if they passed you hearthseeker will jump you back.

4. Alternative runes and traits.

Runes and sigils: Runes of the undead for extra condi damage and toughness.

Sigil of Corruption: If you want more condi damage instead of toughness go for this
rune.

Infusions: go ahead and pick the ones you like not really incalculated in my build.

Traits and utillity:

Change might on dodge for vigor on heal.
Change slowpulse for Condi removal at shadow arts.
Change Withdraw skill for Hide in shadows.
Change Roll for initiative for shadowstep.
Change Roll for initiative for Signet of Agility.

I would probably take condition removal while in stealth over slowed pulse and vigor on heal over might on dodge. The vigor on heal would synergize well with death blossom spam evades and your heal, withdraw.

So basically a chunk of meat without any real decent damage?
You could at least get some caltrops, I don’t know.
Death Blossom and Poison Field can only get you so far, in my opinion.
And of course sigil of momentum is a poor choice as always – I’ve always wondered who could ever pick 125 toughness over 250 of any other stat(hint: condition damage…)

Because your condi damage will be really high. Plus with the 7% transfer to condi dps makes it a better choice for survivability. Plus you will also get a bit condi damage more. Its your choice in the end ofcourse. change it as you like ofcourse The caltrops with dodge might be a good choice to go with aswell. I made this guide in a rush. It will be improved this weekend.

True, but you will not soon run out of ini. That makes you able to spam deathblossom really much. Like i said your main weapon will be a shortbow. because of the cluster arrow when rushing. Deathblossom slows you really much. I rather have might on dodge in my personal opinion because on the end of the zerg rush water + blast helps you to remove your condi’s. Plus the food will really help you out with condi on you. But thank you for the suggestion.

In large raids, power > condition damage, in my opinion.

Aside from that though, wouldn’t Hide in Shadows be a better heal since you’re traited 6 in SA already? I’d also prefer Shadow’s Embrace for the extra condi-clear over the regen. The thing about the regen buff is you’ll likely have it in a large raid setting anyway, but one could always use more instantaneous condi removal.

True, but he healing roll skill has 15 seconds shorter cd, rolls back, removes cripple, chill and imo. The direct healing is way bigger in comperation. plus the stealth effect is just 3 secs max. Personal i ratter have another escape/shorter heal spell then 3 secs stealth and regen.

Given how often people cleanse cond in zergs and how easy it is to overwrite bleeding and other conds you’re much-much better off just going full PVT SP/SB and spamming cluster bombs or pistol whip.

It has almost 100 toughness and 1700 health less than your build, but will full corruption stacks it has over 450 extra condition damage, so only a little less survival but a decent amount of extra damage.

Also, with venom sharing you can support your group and add to it’s damage output at the same time.

Simplicity is complex.

Good feedback is key to getting the developers to listen to you.

Actually, the stealth lasts 4 seconds consider you maxed SA. And you also have more toughness in stealth so I’d say Hide in Shadows in the end will be more beneficial than Withdraw. Also, if you’re poisoned, Withdraw heals much less.

I’d rather have Direct Damage while in large fights and Condis while Roaming to down people sooner rather later.

When I command I use S/D and Venom share, so for the initial bomb I double dodge using Flanking strike and any evades, and I then switch to Short Bow for some AOE aswell as Daggerstorm if I need additional Stability.

cool suggeston guys. but tbh im not going to make a pvt guide in this thread. this is for the guys that want to be a condi commander. I didnt take share venom with reasons
