Yishis, How did you get so good?
50% experience and 50% quick thinking. Know the enemy and know your limits( when to retreat) .wait for the right moment to attack.
practice practice and patience, lots of it. getting excited and jumping the gun can and usually does = death in wvw/pvp. Also try not to get discouraged. alot of these video makers are very good however they are always better on video than they actually are bc they pick and choose all of there footage and filter out the deaths/losses/bad clips.
take note between video 4 (outnumbered) and video 5(outnumbered) there is a 1 month span. ask yourself how many GOOD fights did you have in the last month that you would put on video? im sure atleast a dozen? try keep it in perspective and practice alot. challenge yourself and dont overstep what you can do with your build or get overly aggressive.
disclaimer: i was not diggin at many of the good video makers but just trying to show its a highlight reel and not representative of overall success
i think that guy should be banned forever because of him we are so bad now in pve
so many www trolls ruined us

Yea lets ban all the skilled players so pve can be safe
He said he may go back to DD too *sips tea
anyone want some?
He did go back to DD
I love Yishis’s videos, he inspired me to play thief, and with the exception of the month wiht 4 sec revealed time, I’ve loved it
When’s his next video? I was less fond of the P/D one…
He did go back to DD
Sooo does that mean people won’t look at me weird when they see an Usoku on my left, and an Usoku on my right as well? Because I honestly believe DD can still be used effectively, maybe not as great as DP but you catch my drift.

I like DD more than DP as well. DP is more forgiving than DD however, because you do not need to get into melee range to stealth, nor do you need to risk eating tons of damage.
Simple question. how many buttons on your mouse. most of these “pro players” use a 4-8 button mouse, bind there utilities and away you go.
I’ll stick with my 3 button mouse though. i can’t validate paying $60+ for one but you might want to.
@Highlie, I play with a Razer gaming mouse with 12 buttons on the side.
nice, didn’t even know they made em with that many hah
I am ashamed to admit though, despite the rigorous training, I cannot for the life of me take down a bunker DD ele, a GC one if a get some good Backstabs in, but a bunker is literally impossible for me to kill…. :’(
How I personally improve (and I’m not super pro) is by putting myself into bad situations on purpose. The easy situations you don’t really need to practice… the bad ones where you’re challenged and will probably die… you may well learn something. Plus it gives you that nice little “oh kitten” rush/edge.

Read: The book of five rings , it will make you better at life. Focus on the book of the void.
Also this is a video game, positioning is everything. It’s easy to tell when you’re in a bad spot. Youre taking damage or dead.. I no longer make YouTube highlight videos they dont show enough struggle to capture the start and end of fights.

My latest commentary video came out today and I’m playing Dagger/Dagger:
Apologies that I’m very busy with work IRL at this time. However, a lot of the suggestions given by others in this thread are great! Mobility, positioning, and knowing when to engage and disengage are all extremely important. Hopefully my latest commentary can provide additional tips/advice for you. Good luck!

Hey Yashi, amazing work there mate! One question, how can you manage without the Shadow’s Embrace trait (Remove one condition every 3 seconds while in stealth) ? I tried without it and had a very hard time. So I usually use that instead of gaining two initiatives with every stealth. I haven’t stopped playing D/D even after the revealed nerf. I just didn’t enjoy the P/D as much. I run a close build to yours, but with much cheaper gear replacements hehe
Engineer and Elementalist in progress…
Watch his utility bar, im noticing he rarely does more than 2 of the cooldowns at once. Im seeing this as a major flaw in my gameplay. Ive been playin S/D and i have a buddy that does d/p and its only then that i do well. We ended up taking about 15 guys on yesterday, killing about 8 and escaping. But when i play solo, i cant get that extra pressure, so i try to stay in stealth and blow cooldowns. Only screwin myself later on in the fight.
So the videos are really an eye opener for me. I come from mesmer, and i shouldve known -.- saving my stealth is very important.
Edit: errpp he plays p/d >.<
No he changed back to d/d a new one is out.

Your first problem is expectation. It seems from your post, you want to take on or pressure 15 players as a solo thief. I’m sorry but that is unrealistic.

Oh no im not talking 15 players, 7-8 maybe. 15 players with my buddy. Playing carefully. Even if i did get one down, i can never stomp anywho.

7-8 (assuming all lvl 80 in gear and decent to good players) is till too high IMO.

Maybe im assuming too much coming from mesmer? I bursted down 5 people instantly.
What do you think is a good number solo? 5? idk sometimes i just get these feelings. I guess it matters on the situation.
first of all you must know your enemy’s
by that i mean you should notice against what kind of builds you will fight before you engage
-if you see an thief use shappering stone, curry butternut /assasin signet – he will be glas cannon in 90% of situations – so the best to focus him first, because he die easy but can be dangerous.
-if you see an warrior with 3-4 signets , without food, he can be your last target since he is newbie and won’t give you much troubles, even if you make mistakes he cannot punish you
-you also must pay attention to mesmers, specialy if they got critical food /utility’s they can have high burst and be dangerous.
-elementailists -usualy are not dangerous , most of players play balanced-tanky elementalists and they damage is easy to dodge/avoid.
-necromancers, can be an issue but never your first target, since they got high amount of HP and fear.
-rangers i usualy take them second, after thieves since they can provide decent/high damage and CC
-engineirs – you can notice easy what kind of build they play ,by main weapon – rifle -direct damage /// pistol / x condition.
- hammer /staf /scepter gs guardians -they are usualy too slow for you and cannot harass you to much.
When you can’t win , or you should not engage
Sword /shield guardians : – they can instant blind / knockback even without an target , very dangerous in groups, they can mess up your CnD rotation
hammer warriors-they can CC without an target, they usualy run shouts to protect ally’s
Very nice video.
I like the commentary giving a rundown on your thoughts.
Other Thieves should take note of the various ways that stealth is used here. Some are subtle, others are not. Need to understand both to come close to this.
I loved the Thief vs 2 Thieves … highlights the difference between good/bad thieves.
Try your best to not make mistakes, but, when you do make mistakes, learn from them.
Better yourself.

Awesome, can’t wait to watch it… How do you think the new reveal traps will affect D/D roamers? It seems to me that it should only rarely affect thieves roaming as long as they stay away from primary choke points….
I don’t know. He uses dagger storm… Other than that the video is good.
Except that you can easily cancel it, and doing so maintains the Stability Boon.

Daggerstorm, like all thief elites, is awesome when used intelligently.
Heck, watch that video by travlane where he’s running pistol dagger and uses his sneak attack 2+ times on a thief using daggerstorm, thereby shooting himself several times.

great great work yishi! i tihnk arena net applied this anti stealth trap cuz of your Godly skills solo roamer thief!. maybe they reviewed all your WvW vidoes LOL.
Yishi, Jumper, Caed, Wild Bill, Altair Frost and other great thieves out there are the reasons why our class got nerf!! like this anti stealth trap thing! being a very good thief isn’t that easy i wish arena net know what they’re doin

Darn them for being good at the game, lol.
If only they could suck like most other thieves, there wouldn’t be any need for nerfs as you’d just have bad players doing well instead of a few great players doing exceptionally well.
