You're all coming off
Yea but, you typing this doesn’t change anything and I doubt it helps the trolls and the complaints go away.
All though I agree with what you say, I think to write a post like this in attempt to put a stop to the complaints and rage posts only prolongs the rage posts.
Because what you wrote to many may just reads as: “You’re all a bunch of children, stop complaining, Arena Net…..fun….nerf”
Dont compensate any damage nerf (even tho one is not needed) with survival buffs. Give us more control options (conditions) and condition damage applications (like burning) on our already existing ability.
Welcome to MMOs – this ALWAYS happens. To EVERY class. ALL the time. Thanks to the mutually exclusive needs of PvP vs. PvE (“winning” vs. “having fun playing”), nerfs to any class with a statistical edge, no matter how slight, will ALWAYS happen. I suggest just learning to have fun with whatever you’re currently playing, keeping in mind that behavior will certainly change over time. If that frustrates you, try single-player games like Skyrim (which are actively designed specifically to make you feel monstrously overpowered because… well… you ARE).
It’s just another reminder of the lovely Nerf-smash in WoW where elemental shamans got nerfed ridiculously in patch 2.4 i think just because they would be able to do more DPS, if they tried hard enough, compared to mages(back then they said elemental’s DPS should be atleast 5% below mages or something like that.)
The last thing i remember about that issue was few pages of Topics posted saying “NERF THIS” with one lovely graphical middle finger. so much fun =)

And the people said AMEN!
I’ve said it over and over….all MMO’s should have an entirely separate build set for PvP and PvE. If they need to nerf…errr….balance… different classes for PvP, it won’t effect the PvE players and vice versa. Why no one seems to do this is beyond me. So now, every time a group of PvP’rs do the whiny whiner dance about each other because they are butt hurt that they didn’t win a match or got killed and get a class nerfed, we PvE’rs have to suffer the consequences. Let me tell you how OLD that gets.
Oh, at first I thought you meant the complainers were teenage trolls.
Given the sheer number of “nerf thieves!” PVP threads here, making it difficult to find advice about how to actually build a fun PVE thief, it seemed like a logical conclusion.
Tell me about it! I spend more time digging through all the peeing and moaning done by PvP’rs and PvP this and WvW that…just to find a few helpful posts on PvE. And then…I get a decent build for PvE play and all of a sudden it gets the nerf bat because someone got their wittle feewings hurted in PvP and whined to the devs. SO, I get to try to play with nerfed PvE abilities to satisfy the the oh-so-fragile egos of PvP’rs who don’t know how to deal with the fact that they can’t win all the time.
/end rant…yes, it gets frustrating.
…like a bunch of teenage trolls that don’t care if anyone else has fun in …..
…..PvE either as if PvP and PvP’rs are all that matter.
Fixed the end of your sentence for ya.
Or as a lot of people will suggest, learn to play against the Thief. You have extra character slots and you have the ability to go into The Mists at level 2, buy all the best gear and runes, and beat on NPCs and see how things work. Anet gives all of you the tools to figure out works best for YOU and how YOU will deal with another class. You can even fight the gd NPCs that represent a particular class. Go fight that stupid NPC Thief, she’s the hardest one to kill if you’re not paying attention, and she doesn’t even use daggers but pistols.
Anet isn’t about to change their game around the 0.001% of the whiners in the population and believe me it’s probably even less of a % than that, I was basing that on an old thread dealing with the same whining going on in World of Warcraft. Developers don’t listen to anything but their own data except in rare instances, and if their data shows that the Thief is doing more than what they wanted them to when they put them in the game, then they will change them. If not, then learn to play and move the kitten on. Argue and cry all you want to if it makes you feel better, but know that in the end they have your money, they don’t charge nor force you to play and they don’t care what you have to say.
…like a bunch of teenage trolls that don’t care if anyone else has fun in PvP. Math has nothing to do with a players fun and enjoyment, unless that player is the one putting out ridiculous numbers. There are ways to nerf Thief burst and compensate for it with survival buffs, but I know the majority of you don’t want that.
Arena Net wants players to have fun. They are scrambling to retain players. Thief nerfs/balancing will be incoming.
This is a Learn-to-play issue gone haywire. 12 year olds getting facerolled. Wake up for a reality check if you’re not fit to play a skill-based game.
Arenanet isn’t losing any players because “thief is op.”
This game is still going very strong, and if someone quits because they got facerolled by a thief, I don’t think anyone is going to miss them.
If anything, they’re losing players due to a lack of end-game PvE content. WvW as the only end-game content at the moment is pretty lackluster. I personally love it, but I could see how some people would get sick of it.
Why would I be angry? I’m just a little tired of everybody that doesn’t know how to play against one class blaming that class for being overpowered when they don’t play the class, don’t read about the class and then see one or two fights in some video of a big number on screen and scream over powered and nerf, nerf, nerf. You can sit here and whine about them or go learn how to deal with them, which would take all of a few minutes to figure out how to deal with them. Backstab Thieves are very easy to kill, I should know, I run a Wild Bill Thief and I took on two Backstab thieves at once, and beat them both because I’m not a squishy flavor of the month build. It’s just easier for people like you to whine and cry rather than get better at the game until this game turns into World of Warcraft where everybody does the same dps, everybody can tank and everybody can heal (even the Rogues can now heal as much as a Druid kitten .
I play the game because it’s fun, not because I think this or that class is better than another. Certain classes are better at certain things and the Thief is good at 3 shotting bad players, okay at killing decent players and almost useless against players that know how to counter them. If Anet wants to nerf Backstab, I welcome it, it’s just going to give players something else to whine about until the game dies and people move on. /shrug

If your concept of “fun” is for ArenaNet to compensate for the majority of players that reached their conclusion purely out of ignorance, then you shouldn’t even be playing this game competitively. If you haven’t realized, a lot of people grieving about just how unbalanced thieves are in the pvp world don’t actually come up with a solution which works, rather than a solution that will fit their needs. You have players complaining about how much damage a thief does, while having no problems with their speed nor their stealth capabilities. On the other hand, other players are complaining on the polar opposite. Out of all these players, none of them can find a rational answer which will put thieves on equal balance with the rest of the classes. The real trolls aren’t thief players defending their classes, it’s the people who make irrational judgements about a class they have very little ideas about and proceed to find any ways of justifying why their own class should stand on the top of class hierarchy with pathetic excuses like “thieves are op”. If thieves were really that powerful in pvp, then everyone would literally reroll to a thief and that would be it. However, people are scared that they will be trying out a new class and ends up failing it, contradicting their statements about such class and end up realizing it’s just player skills which made the difference between them losing and their opponents winning.
To blatantly judge people’s calculation on how much damage a thief can produce ,without giving any reasons to why they’re wrong, proves just how much you’re contributing in the whole “whether thief is op or not” topic. They put some considerable amount of knowledge into figuring out how much damage thieves can do, while you’re running your mouth because you do not like what those numbers represent.
If you haven’t realized already, every class has a major role. A thief is built around damage, a thief’s skills are built around producing damage, and a thief play style is also centered around how to maximize damage. To tell us that we should nerf a thief’s damage and replace survivability as compensation is like telling a guardian we should take their defense away and give them more damage. Not only does that suggestion contradict how our class behaves in combat, it also suggests that everyone should start considering making a warrior, the melee class based around damage and survivability. How should we even consider taking your suggestion seriously, if you yourself never thought it through?
You talk about having fun, while blindly making false accusations toward us as if you have full knowledge of what the major problems regarding thieves are right now. You want to know why ArenaNet scrambles to keep players in? Because most players don’t think about their own flaws and take the blame towards the game or others. ArenaNet is focusing on keeping quitters in the game, just like all other game companies. Think about just how ignorant you’re being when you made this thread, and tell me why others should put up with your selfish statements.
You say math has nothing to do with players fun and enjoyment?
So providing facts about the class as PROOF that the class is fine is worthless? Yeah, we should just let the nerf patrol throw wild accusations around without refuting their BS claims… Why don’t you ask them to actually backed up their claims with evidence? Maybe we could have a proper discussion then instead of the usual trolling they bring to this sub forum.
“Thieves are OP.”
“Not really, care to show any proof?”
“I took 152952862936201 damage from backstab.”
“Oh really? Here’s the math of exactly how that skill is calculated in multiple situations.”
“Math doesn’t matter!”
Who is coming off as a bunch of teenage trolls here?
