Your most satisfying steals?
My favourite was when i was sttomping a tough condi thief after an intense battle and as he ported away, i used steal to finish the stomp unhindered.
I always enjoy stealing whirlwind axe from an axe/mace warrior. Use it when their tremor skill it heading towards you and you can reflect it, knocking them over with their own ability and letting you finish the animation to deal a lot of damage unopposed from a skill you also stole from them :P
I was in a 2 vs 4 and my ally had been downed, and i was about to be next in a couple seconds as all my non-weapon skills were on cooldown and i had almost no initiative. My dodges were also depleted. I managed to select a thief and steal from him and used the stolen item to stealth and escape with less than 1k health left.
Does the whirlwind steal reflects projectiles?
I like almost all the steals, they’re mostly a very beefed up skill. I like throw junk and death blossoming in it. I like the ranger tree because it heals me massively. I like the necromancer’s fear because it’s longer than his fear. I like steal because it teleports me and i like teleporting. It gives me vigor, might, quickness and fury. It steals 2 boons from the enemy, which is very useful vs stability. Just strip the stability and interrupt plague, dancing daggers and other stuff.
I like steal.
Does the whirlwind steal reflects projectiles?
Yes, it does. A fact that many rifle warriors i run into don’t seem to realise either :P Reflecting a killshot is probably my next favourite use of steal.

I always forget to do this!
My favorite is getting Consume Plasma from a mesmer, popping it, then popping Daggerstorm… so much carnage. Occasionally have even been running SoM and have gotten this combo
Some good tips there, deffo the best ability.
Stealing from a mesmer is my favorite.
All boons? yes please
Stealing Skull Fear from a Necro while he is running away, then Shadowstepping slightly ahead and fearing him off a cliff to his death.
Resident Thief
Definitely Mace Head Crack from guardians. I play s/d and most tanky guards are so sure thieves are no threat, that they just stand still and try spamming blocks when you melee them. Usually I just poke their aegis, then steal, then just drag the fight for 45 secs, intentionally taking damage and just poking them with shortbow. Then IS in, f1, f1, f1, 5, 1. 10s daze = dead overconfident guardian without me taking any damage.
My happiest Steal moment happened in PvE, about lvl 30 and the first time I really ever used the skill since low level. (when it seemed pretty worthless) I was off collecting plants when all of a sudden this Huge kitten veteran Ogre spawned right on top of me. I still wasn’t so good at combat yet, and I just knew I was doomed. But on a whim I used steal and hit the Ogre with the club I snagged – knocked the boomer down flat and did about half his health to him in one stroke. Saved my kitten and made me instantly fall in love with the power. Been one of my favorite parts of the class ever since.
I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.

Without a doubt the most enjoyable use of Steal.

I can top it…sorta. Same scenario except you are in the middle of a zerg and while youre stomping the thief, he ports, and you shadow step to him since my steal was used earlier on him :p, and when you complete the stomp and the enemies are roflaoeing at your location, you shadow return and use the stolen hair to slip away, as if you were some sorta thief in the night…..
If I run a Lyssa build and have all boons up I’ll look for a Mesmer to steal from so I can have all boons again afterwards.
A lot of good stories here! Keep them coming. Love all of them so far and can recognize myself in many of them.
Stealing fear is epic. I love fearing a group of 2-3 trying to fast rez their friend with a cheap tactic, then finish.
I got stunned and the ran.. so far ahead of me.. what to do.. he’s almost dead just needs one more hit…
Ohhhh llok at that…
using SB
Shadowstep closer
Switch to S/D

Even more epic
Killed enemy thief trying to escape me just in front of his spawncamp buff.
He teleports in, I wait ’till my finishing move is almost finished, shadowstep in.
Kill him, shadowstep out before the legendary guardians killed me
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Stealing from a warrior and using that spinning axe skill in the middle of a WvW zerg is awesome.
I have another one to share, quite proud of it too.
Was in a PUG when foe fire was the tournament map and in the middle a large battle was going on. one of my teammates got downed by an ele who was preparing to stomp them when i charged up a basilisk venom that just got off cool-down and used steal to freeze them in mid-air, heart seeker the little of their life that was left and revive my teammate.

Was at quentin lake in WvWvW when a necro was taunting me and 4-5 guildies. we chased him down and as he was about to enter quentin tower, i Stole, put my back to his back and used withdraw, then used fear so he basically ran back and got owned by my guildies.
I like stealing fear from a Necro because I can keep the first one I’ve stolen, wait for Steal to get off cooldown, use the first fear, Steal from the Necro again, use fear again — chain fear is awesome.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
A Warrior killed me using Whirling Axe. So I respawned and ran back to the same fight, saw the same Warrior, used steal on him, and then downed him with Whirling Axe. I just loved the irony in that. I wish steal had more skills that replicated other profession attacks, in a similar way.

I don’t know about you, but I just love the steal skill. I use it all the time whether it is spvp, WvW or PvE. I am wondering what are your most satisfying stealing moments?
I think mine has got to be when I steal the whirling axe from a warrior and then return the 100blades favor to them and they do not realize that they can dodge it. I just love the irony of it.
I also use a trickery build in PvE and it is quite nice to see you buff your whole party with all those buffs.
Oh my bejeezus, I love all of them. Whirling axes does a ton of damage in a short period of death. Thief steal is a free blinding powder, and thus a free shadow step too. Stun on guard is wonderful. Slowing down eles like crazy is fun, and even more fun as you watch them try to “run” away. Engi steal is epic, with a ton of conditions and chaos armors everywhere. Ranger steal makes an absolutely amazing healing field, that can be used for health regeneration via HS and CB, or just the base regeneration you already get. Necro is a bit weak, but when you land it, it does the same as a warrior utility that usually has a one and a half minute cooldown (or whatever it is). Mes steals mean a lot of boons.
They’re just… All so good.
