backstab build question...
In PvE with my glass cannon thief, I usually get around 8k Backstabs in high level dungeons. It’s more of a persistent Backstab build rather than focused on one large hit, though. It’s the usual 25/30/0/0/15 build, though.
Although, I will say that, aside from the open world exploration, D/D is pretty awful in PvE. I’ve never felt as useful in PvE when using D/D as I do when using S/D or S/P. I just contribute more to the party than damage. Hell, even D/P would contribute more utility. Unless you’re built for condition damage, it just seems that you really shouldn’t be using D/D in dungeons or events (especially not events with a lot of monsters).
If you’re full zerkers, you’ll probably average around 7-9k without Assassin’s Signet.
Hell, I’m only 10 DA and I’m still getting 9k w/o AS. What matters the most is:
1.) That Backstab crits
2.) That you have a copious amount of bonus Critical Damage.
For the record, you can easily slot all Valkyrie jewelry if you take Hidden Killer trait over Executioner in Critical Strikes. Especially if you have over +100% critical damage bonus.

Interesting. Just wanted to see if I am dishing out around the same as others with my build. I am a little under, rocking 6000-8000 and Ive gone as high as 9k.
Ive thought about going other weapon sets but Id have to farm out a pistol then.
The problem I find with a D/P build is that it is an initiative hog. Ive done tests of D/D vs D/P, both kill roughly the same, maybe D/Dis a split second faster, but with D/P I was left with 3 initiative vs 9 with D/D. Traits wouldn’t matter in this case because its essentially the same rotation other than the fact that you need to Heartseeker in the smoke field to put yourself into stealth if running D/P.
I offer utility via utilities. Signet of agility, and shadow refuge.
IMO, D/D is doing more damage pve than D/P.
bigger burst, uses less initiative.
