d/p mania
ahahah ppl will only be happy when there is NO viable spec left for thieves.
anyway… keep the river of tears flowing.

no they wont
The only d/p builds that needs tweaked are the ones that grant 2 init on stealth. A change such as not granting +2 init if gaining stealth while stealthed (only when first entering stealth) would fix it. Thieves run D/X in wvw because the average person there sucks and has a fondness for running away. D/P is our best chaser set so it makes sense. You’ve spent enough time in these forums (even without providing any useful comments) to know that!

I agree. A thief is my only 80 with about 1200 hours logged on it. I played d/p about 4 months ago and had to get rid of it. There’s no way to play it without feeling like you are straight abusing a broken mechanic. Seriously, d/p players. Before u cry L2P, know I used to win 98% of fights 1v1 as d/p. Go buy another set or make another toon and attempt to fight d/p. You won’t win. You will not kill it 1v1. You may find a class that won’t die, but that’s not how this game is supposed to be played. I completely agree OP. My proposed solution would be to make black powder a slightly bigger radius and increase initiative by 2, but preferably 3.
Love,
Guy who ONLY plays thief.
P.S. Anet. I buy gems in bunches. :p
Edit: There are PLENTY of other “viable” specs out there for thief atm (perplexity, P/D, D/D, S/X) so the argument that this is the only good spec is ridiculous. I’ve learned “viable” in the thief forum means OP.

It’s a scrub build.
Back when you could remove blind by auto-attacking, as a d/d, dagger/pistol thieves were not that much of a problem but still a challenge when the player behind it was good.
Nowadays it’s just bad/mediocre thieves with a weaponset which allows for too many mistakes. Dazing important attacks/heals? Nope. Reacting to what your enemy is doing? Nope, I’ll just stand in this mesmer’s chaos storm auto-attacking with no worries of maybe him getting aegis (and me getting poisoned) and potentially ruining my attempt to stealth at him, wasting initiative.
But hey, black powder away folks because while everyone is a noob and needs to l2p on how to counter dagger/pistol (Like the fella above me “Don’t stand in BP, man!”) you just be ignorant of what your surrounding is doing and reinforce bad habits on the way and get frustrated when, one day, it actually matters of what your opponent is doing. (But don’t worry, that won’t happen anyways.)
For me, Thief is a major source of dilemma. It’s my only other lvl 80 (next to my warrior), but none of the builds just seem to do it for me.
- For me, the lack of stealth means P/P and S/P are not options.
- D/D has 2 skills that are barely ever used, and the gameplay essentially boils down to spamming Backstab and Heartseeker.
- P/D is a condi spec, which I dislike. I like seeing those big figures.
- I just don’t like the playstyle of S/D
Sadly, D/P seems to be the most finely tuned weaponset a Thief has. All of the skills on it are useful, some to an extreme. Meanwhile, it maintains the great damage gained from Backstab and it has very high stealth uptime.
I hate people lumping trickery based d/p builds with the shadow arts versions…

Seeing this i m very compelled to answer. You are playing a class called thief which anet specifically stated they want it to be slippery and get out of fights easily. Does that mean even a monkey rolling its face on the keyboard should be able to do it? Yes im afraid so. D/p is the easiest set to play with but that doesnt mean it has a low skill cap or is broken. Even if people can get away easy with it and troll around that does not mean they can win with it. Running away when your hp is low is losing either you make it out alive or not. Chasing someone away is the same as winning even if you dont kill him. And because they can d/p can run it doesnt mean they can kill something with it. Even if you win 98% of your fights as d/p (i wont comment on the legitimacy of that claim) doesnt mean scrubs can too. I played 1k+ hours as well on thief and Black podwer is usefull to me in pve and i think your suggestion is bad.
Guy who ONLY plays thief also.
yeah, I disagree. running away and surviving is at worst a draw. Often it counts as a win. certain builds are scrub because there are zero consequences for bad play.
Repeated heartseekers are a bit excessive when chasing enemies or leaping in smoke. I’m guessing it will be put into a two skill chain at some stage, similar to flanking strike.
I still believe chain stealthing to be a big problem, but that’s more relevant for X/D instead of P/D.

I think u wanted to type D/P ?
So chain stealthing with x/d is a problem ( requires to be in meele range to do that, counterable my blinds, blocks, evades, random movement, all kinds of cc, aoe damage, what is pretty much any damage source in game) and D/P blind field perma stealth is not?

The whole shadow arts line just needs to get changed is all. D/P weaponset itself is fine.
Just need to move Infusion of Shadow to Grandmaster Trait. Remove or significantly nerf Shadow’s Rejuvenation, and Meld with Shadows.

The only problem with D/P is its ability to stealth without using any target. And you can use it over and over again for perma stealth(HS on top view so you won’t jump so far=4xHS on blinding powder).
So which one is worst? Close up d/d(taking full aoe damage etc) or d/p blinding powder+HS? Low risk high reward is never going to be good. The way I see it, d/p is the same as skull crack+100b. It is not that OP, but it belong at the same tree.
