d/p vs cele engi
Run, he’s rock and you’re scissors. The only thing you can really do is catch them when they’re low in a team fight and burst them down the rest of the way.
:( that’s devastating to hear. even a low hp engi is hard to burst when he still has his block and the others aren’t chasing him
Hate to say it, but the D/P Meta build is hard countered by heavy condi pressure with sustain, which is exactly what the Cele Engi build is.
Unless there is a huge difference in skill level, the Engi will come out on top.
Surviving condi pressure requires vitality and condition removal, which the D/P meta build has little to none of.
You can switch your traits and utilities around a bit. Put 2 in Shadow arts for Shadow’s Embrace over 2 in Deadly Arts for Mug, and Invigorating Precision over Executioner. You can also swap out Infiltrator’s Signet for Signet of Agility.
This will raise your overall survivability, but sacrifice a good amount of dps. It can make the Engineer fight one that you have a shot at winning.
if he is in rifle, blind him
if he switches to grenades, go in sb and kite him while spamming choke/cluster bomb; when he gets low HS his kitten
avoid magnet pull
if you couldn’t interrupt crate, just leave
at the end, it comes down to dodging right spells and not let him overload you with condis

Don’t be too sad, cele engi counters a hell lotta builds and classes it’s a fight that’s difficult but not impossible either read about classes you feel overwhelm you, play the class or find a good experienced mentor. I agree with what cynz stated you need to atleast place 2 in SA for condi removal I always bring this trait unless if I’m going full glass, I even have it with my s/d build 2/0/2/4/6. I struggle a lot against other classes at the beginning of the game( I still do) but that’s what makes the thief such an interesting class to play. One you play the thief well you’ll master any other class easily
Hard match up but not impossible. You have to play REALLY well to kill a good engi. Blinding every overcharged shot in time and rupting his heal.
Personally I can’t interrupt the heal so I just never fight them 1v1 unless I really have to but in that case I’ll just use the “scrub” tactic and LoS+ shortbow 2/3 spam to kill them .
If you are able to keep track of transmute in this fight it’ll help you know when you’re blinds will fail. This is important because you’ll go from avoiding an attack to getting hit by crits when you give them fury.
Save shadow step in case you get caught in slick shoes. If you’re step/return are used before they use slick shoes you are best off just leaving the fight at that point.
There’s a lot you need to avoid and you don’t have enough defenses to avoid it all, which is the main reason the fight is so unfavorable. You won’t have enough initiative to blind and daze everything, and they can get around the blinds with grenades.
Superspeed is a good way for them to make you use initiative on a port by creating distance. Smarter engi’s do this when they proc burning on you and will be strafing for distance with auto attacks. You should condi clear here, and if you can’t it’s another sign you likely want to run away.
The match up is basically a hard counter at similar skill. You can outplay them heavily even if they make mistakes and still not bring them down. It’s better for you to avoid that 1v1 in most situations, save holding a point while playing defensively until someone rotates to you if you’re ever in that situation.

One advice for you fella thieves to daze shot him with #4 to proc a protection on CC (trait in vita line) then proceed to steal protection and give max damage at this window since engi very vulnerable without protection. And if you steal without protection it will proc after boon stealing eating good chunk of your damage in no cost.
Good luck!
Not many engis take protection injection anymore though. Most common spec is 60044 with backpack regenerator.

This means they’re vulnerable to burst after heal, when their turret can’t knockback you, SB him and burst after heal and elixir B proc.
The funny thing is I can beat a cele meta spec engi but not a turret engi….

I can “beat” most “meta spec engis” as well but it takes a huge amount of time and a all my CDs, both being far more useful if spent in other ways.
Being able to “beat” something does not mean it’s the wisest thing to do during a PvP match.

Nor does it mean the worst thing depending on the context. We both have our points?

And hopefully your teammates have mid. *cheshire grin*
