fix shadowstep NOW
since last patch!? hasnt it allways been like that!? i have never been able to use shadowstep, SB etc on stairs and on some bridges :S
Why spend time to fix something when they can simply nerf us?
It’s been that way with every teleport. It’s a terrain issue, since the terrain parts aren’t connected and the shadowsteps are limited to the same mesh, and stairs, bridges, detail rocks and other addons to the base terrain mesh aren’t part of the same mesh itself. It’s an intended feature rather than a bug to prevent extreme exploitations of shadowsteps and teleports. If you’d like to use shadowstep, ask yourself 3 things:
- “What kind of mesh is my character standing on?”
- “What kind of mesh am I trying to teleport to?”
- “Are they the same, and is there a fluid connection between the two (nothing bisecting the meshes such as a door, wall, etc)?”
If all 3 are in check, you’re good to go. It might be a little too technical for a game, but I thought I’d drop in my insight as a 3D character and environment artist with experience in these kinds of technicalities.
This was a nerf done a very long time ago. Some shadowsteps were as reliable as mesmer portals, but we’ve been banned from such convenience and the skills’ve gotten buggier.
Currently what annoys me the most is when I leap into close range of many people to take out someone of low HP in an extremely risky maneuver that requires shadowstep to survive~ and then when I use it I get bugged out by an immobilize after I tele and rubberband back into the enemies and instadie.
the problem i encounter with this is shadowstepping away and being immobilized on the spot. the hell is this kitten
If all 3 are in check, you’re good to go.
Lol this really isn’t true though. Just like it isn’t true of the typical saying, “If you can walk there, then you can port there.” The way porting works in this game is still very haphazard. I like it and hate it at the same time. I fall in love with classes/games that have nitch tricks to them and that is one reason why I main thief. Yet it’s still pretty haphazard as to figuring out what you can port to.

I’ve been playing a thief since February, and while there are still places where it can be a bit buggy it’s true 99% of the time. You’ve got to understand environment modeling to be truly safe.
In fact, 1200 range shadowstep is not really too far to catch
I think it’s fair that we should be able to shadowstep to everywhere within 1200 range
just like warrior can leap though a gap that no one can jump though
now the shadowstep normally just bring us 1200 range far from enemies, when we can make that range with 3~4 heartseeker, and just sometimes we can use it jump up a hill to escape
You’ve got to understand environment modeling to be truly safe.
The best ports are completely out of the norm of what you would expect. The clocktower shadowshot tp or roof tp; or forest of niffelhelm midpoint back ledge port from bottom of stairs as examples. It’s far more important to know the “hotspots” than it is to follow a modelling rule.
Again? Is this bug bound to happen every few patches or something?
Infiltrator’s Arrow on shortbow also has the very annoying issue of rubberbanding back to enemies when hit with immobilize, or simply not going anywhere but blinking and being a couple steps away from your original spot (and sometimes not even going anywhere period, just reappearing in the same spot). I die from this happening with shadowstep and Infiltrator’s Arrow more than I’d like. :\
I don’t know about any other players, but I’ve been experiencing a crap ton of skill lag and really just lag in general. I rubberband like the rest – now even more frequently than ususal.
It’s annoying in spvp because it usually means you go through initiative rather quickly, or you don’t use a skill at a critical time. GG anet. Wonderful coding team you got there.
