This would actually make a great replacement for ankle shot. 100%
Piercing is horrible. Any height difference makes it worthless (shoot into the sky or ground instead of the next target). Ricochet was reliable and great for tagging.
just had a thought yes i know thats dangerous
with the new war rifle knockback of 600 if a thief is knocked back and the war dodges back once a p/p thief is now out of range

Piercing is better than having 900 max range and a big almighty bag of nothing. at least this way u can shoot your target through pets or mobs just target the one at the back your hit everyone in front job done. also just a heads up if you angle your camera your Piercing rounds will follow. so if your shooting high angle your camera to look down on your char more and your be on target (or again just target the guy at the back)

Also I miss my porting from foe to foe with shadow shot + ricochet (good ol’ time)
porting to multiple foes in a straight line sounds like a refreshing fun experience.

What they really need to do is make unload and death blossom switch what they do. Let D/D be a proper power set and let P/P be a proper condition set. What’s the point of dual skills changing for weapons if they don’t fit what the other 4 skills excel at?

i just dont understand why they didnt increase the range of pistol as baseline they did it to every other wep im just pretty shore they dont read the thief forums actually no im 100% shore they dont.

i can understand why a dev wouldnt want 2 step foot in hear but the reason its got this bad is becz their is no dialog loads of ideas have been put up but nothing ever comes from them

The idea was probably to DB people to put on pressure and then burst them down with backstab or HS, but it just doesn’t work, and they’ve clearly got no plans to make it work because D/D is cemented as a power weapon in the eyes of the community.

The fact that Dagger Rookie was introduced means they want it to become hybrid. There is 1 person seriously promoting ballerina thieves in forums but to me it’s the as p/p spam to try, literally.

This. D/D needs to work as a hybrid. It’s too much of a Thief staple not to. Every change they’ve made recently, in particular the buffs to poison, supports this concept.

yes they removed range increasing traits but they roled all the range increase into the weps as standard every single time why cant they do that for thief?
I really think that all Theif weapons should work as a hybrid. Whether they are a AAA Power build or a AAA condi build should be entirely based on how you gear and trait. I don’t think we’re there yet, obviously, but we should be. I think that they should work with Dagger/Dagger until it’s at the point where if you go full zerker and slot traits meant to boost direct damage, then it is one of the strongest direct DPS builds out there, and Death Blossom would be a big part of that, dealing solid damage and a minor DoT. If you instead pick up full condi armor and slot different traits, the daggers should be a first class DoT-laying option, with decent direct damage and then punishing DoTs.
Weapon choice should not shoehorn you into one or the other.

D/D as a hyrbid would be cool…
You guys seriously think ANet can figure out how to make D/D work as a hybrid well enough that it enters the Meta? When they can’t even figure out how to make Pistol main hand work? Or when ANet recycles a bunch of stuff and calls it the Daredevil? Or when Withdrawn’s heal cooldown was nerfed and they just forgot to update the heal for over 3 months now?
There’s 0 effort being put into this profession, hoping for skillful balance of something as delicate as a hybrid power/condi weapon set is not something they’re going to be putting effort into.
Actually I think most of our weapon skills should drop a bleed on cats.

So I went on the wiki just for laughs to see what the current state of the pistol is.
Body shot: 61 damage. I’m not lying, 61.
61 is a passing grade in Math class Arenanet, not here.
To put in perspective, mace4 on the warrior doubles the vuln we have on hit and does 300+ on hit.
Do those numbers seem fair?

You might try comparing attacks weapons with a similar range when making comparisons. In no small part because all ranged attacks suck compared to their melee equivalents. That’s overlooking the little detail of initiative-based cooldowns and immunity to the slowdown from chill.
…Not the Body Shot isn’t terrible, but you just compared a cat to a pumpkin on the basis they’re both orange .

The point is that the vast majority of those traits had their range increase rolled into baseline upon removal. Removing the range boost from Ankle Shots without making it baseline was a kitten move, given how Pistol is already the weakest Thief weapon.
The silver lining is that they seem to be intending to do a more thorough Pistol revamp.. eventually. I sincerely hope they make the range 1050 baseline between now and then.
Body Shot is terrible by any metric, damage included. Until they remake it, they might as well remove its damage entirely, so you can at least use it for a clutch immobilize without dropping stealth.
