help with pistol thief

looking to get my pistol pistol thief back to competitive in wvw/pve. my tank(full ascended trailblazer gear) got one unload on him the other day and it downed him.
what can i do to maximize like that? the tank i was playing had like 28k hp and 2.4k+ toughness. anywho any help would be awesome.

Unload is almost completely useless in full Trailblazer. Head Shot (with a bunch of traits) and the AA are the only things that can really proc condi outside of a Venom. Outside of an interrupt build, P/P is a very poor choice when running full Trailblazer.

He means he was in trailblazer, and someone else used [unload] on him.

you misunderstand. my thief is mostly berzerker stats. i was playing a cnd necro reaper with 28k health and 2.4k toughness(trailblazer gear). a thief i saw who was running pistol/pistol downed me in one use of the unload skill. I have a thief pistol/pistol. how do i duplicate the ownage i recieved.

if you want to emulate that thief’s p/p burst, need to be full zerker, scholar runes, and sigil of force/air on the weapon set and trait full yolo DD DA CS.

You might have had Vuln stacks on you as well. If it was night he likely had a sigil of night/force and was using seaweed salad. Thats 25+ percent boost right there.

Other things to consider. Scholars runes , lead attacks , havoc mastery, bounding dodger, Executioner, exposed weakness , Ankle shots, practiced tolerance , no quarter.

In WvW with bloodlust stacks you can have a base power of over 3100 before might if you take an assassins signet and you can get another 15 percent damage from activating that signet. (Even with the loss of the passive it a net gain in damage for that burst)

Obviously you can not trait all of these at once but they provide significant boosts to damage and once those might stacks build there huge burst potential.

It has a bit of survival built in so you can take a single alpha strike or a single condi bomb. An alternative is to go with Deadly Arts over Trickery. DA will do more spike damage by a good bit but Trickery should have better sustained DPS.

FYI, any D/P thief worth his salt will tear this build apart using stealth and dodging/blocking during reveal. Course if they mess up, this build will down them quickly. If you want more survival, I have a P/P Staff build that plays fairly well.
